Removing a stuck tire........

I also posted this in the mechanics forum with out any success except for a suggestion to ask you guys.

Anyways, I have a old Huffy Aerowind bike that I bought a few months ago and havent really rode it much at all. But I noticed a flat spot on the tire, that I originaly thought was a bent rim. Luckily it was just the tire.

But the problem is, I tried to unmount the tire from the wheel today and it seems to be allmost glued on there. The bike is old (80's?) and the tire looks like it could possibly be the original tire on the bike. Could it have just melted/ fused to the rim over the years? Could this be some kinda botched fix-a-flat job?

My question is..... how do I go about getting this tire off the rim? Should I just hack it up with scissors/ knife? I can only get my tire levers under the bead in 2 places.

Also, is there a fix for the "flat spot" on the tire? Its not a worn-flat spot. It just seems like maybe the bike could of sat for years on a flat tire and caused this.
