My '85 Kuwahara dirt merchant orphan turned Singlespeed..forgive the post, mockup

I think it's lovely, and I'm lovin' this thread.

I been cuttin' my teeth on this Kuwa and the Miyata, and Robbie knows about it cause he taught me most of what I've learned.

I saw this post and wanted to add my 2 cents, even though the post is kinda old. This is a 1984 Kuwahara Pulsar. Got it off CL for $25, but had to strip it down and clean it up. New tubes, tires, cables, brake hoods and handlebar tape. In one pic you can see there's 2 extra wheel spokes on a built-in holder on the frame. Kinda cool. This is the nicest, smoothest riding bike i've had yet.

Here's my Kuwahara Classic.

It has priginal Suntour LePree grupo with downtube shifters, Sugino VP cranks, Dia Compe brakes, nitto stem (model?) and Nitto Olympiade bars. Came with some classic quill pedals but I added them to my '79 schwinn traveler III fixed conversion.

and my schwinn for kicks

Been lucky enough to have owned a Kuwahara Titan for about fifteen minutes, but my friend sniveled so much about how much he liked it that I sold it to him for what I paid - $48.00 and what a nice mid-level bicycle it was.

A second Kuwahara came my way, this time a lesser model, the Newport. That bike did little to impress me.

Kuwahara mountain bicycles come and go but I pay them little heed. I am just a road bicycle guy.

Holy Cow!!!! I got a 1984 Kuwahara Pulsar! I've had it since last September, been rebuilding it slowly. I didn't think I would ever find anyone that has one of these.I like the color: silver/black, mine is black/red, but I'm thinking of repainting it White/red. Yours looks good with the red bar tape.

Welcome to BF gab !

there certainly a few who could tell you all the info you want but to make it easier for the you must; provide close up pics and a serial number.

These are well thought of bikes though seldom seen in the States.

The picture isn't the greatest but it looks like it may have SunTour AccuShift which would place it no earlier than 1987, assuming it is OEM. Regardless, the serial number, which should on the lower, right hand side of the seat tube, will tell us for sure. Of course, that assumes it is Kuwahara manufactured and not offloaded to some Taiwanese manufacturer. It's probably entry level based on the exposed brake nuts. Detail pics should include derailleur, crankset, brakes tubeset decal and model name on top tube.

Kuwahara New Port 1987. Ishiwata Triple Butted CrMo. The script font for the model name is 1987. The colour scheme is New Port.

The other paint scheme that year was steel blue w/grey fork and stays.
