I found this on CL, the owner doesn't know what model it is. He wants $300 for it as is.

Any opinions?

Bump. Anyone able to pinpoint the model?

Hrm, dunno, can the seller tell you what the name on the drops-outs are? If they are Gipiemme, which is my guess, then it would indicate a model on the lower end of the Bianchi spectrum. It looks like a mid-range model made of the Columbus Chro-Mo tubing that was made for Bianchi, nothing really special but nice enough.

I think that for 300$USD you can do a lot better, something at least made of SLX or 531S even. But, it is the classic celeste and it appears to be in pretty good shape, so he will probably get 3 bills for it eventually. In other words, you are paying for the name/colour, not the build of the frame.

Talked to him and they are Gipiemme dropouts. The tubing is the Columbus formula one that Bianchi used for awhile. The only ID numbers he could read of of the BB were "A-6". I have done some leg work and by the decals it looks like it is an '85 model. Made in Jan '86?

For the $300, I would get it as Photo'd. I have bids on some ebay stuff, I'm not rushing on this frame. I'm pretty short and this is a 50 cm frame, so I don't think he has a ton of people after it.

I'd guess 85 or 86 also. Not top of the range but desirable none the less. It would be a couple of models below the top racing model. I would say the bare frame was worth about $200 and with the chain wheels and cranks, seatpost and bottom bracket it looks to be worth $300. The components are probably original equipment. Bianchi frames of that vintage are becoming harder to find and that one looks to be in good condition.

I would pay the $300 to get the frame - but I am hooked on Bianchi's (The history and the Celeste colour).
