Trek 610 gets some Cinelli Criteriums...

Forgive the flash.

Thanks to my good buddy Neal (nlerner) here on the forums, the Trek acquired a pair of 38cm Cinelli Criterium handlebars today, mounted on a Cinelli 1R stem from another one of our very own, Lynn Travers - a.k.a. "CV-6".

The brake hoods are a pair of Dia-Compe Gran Compe pre-aero hoods that I got on a pair of beat-up SR levers at the LBS, the Campagnolo Victory brake levers are another find from the forum (CV-6 or Mhendricks - forgot who), the crankset came from Lynn, and the rest of the NR gruppo is thanks to Little Darwin...yes, for those of you who made the connection - that is Corky's original '72 NR gruppo. Suede bar tape and suede saddle are from two of the LBS's. Hope you fellows like the result so far - I'm in love with the Cinelli bar setup.

Well, now that I have plugged just about everyone on the forum...here's the rest of my shopping list ;) for this machine:

Still looking for a pair of high-flange hubs for this machine (something nice, but not overly expensive, like the one pictured below - I think it is Japanese, came off a Nishiki Competition),

...some Scott-Mathauser Model C brake pads (used is OK, don't need the holders), and a pair of IRC Roadwinner Duro IIs.

I love Cinelli Criterium bars, so comfy on the drops.

I have yet to try them, but I can hardly wait to do so. I'm also curious as to the feel of the suede bar tape.

Ironically I use them on my touring bike. I like to ride on the curves at the tops, and the graceful top curve is good for this puppy.

Test Ride Report:

I took the 610 for a spin this afternoon after setting up the front brake with a pair of NR brake holders with NOS Victory pads (Anyone have two more?), to see how it would perform with the new setup.

Although it was obvious that the bike handles well, I was quite surprised at the effect the cheap Kenda tires (what came on it - IRCs will replace them) had in ruining what would have otherwise been a nice ride - the sheer inaccuracy of the tire's tread was enough to give the sensation of riding on half-inflated tires. In short, the ride qualities were that of a Schwinn Varsity.

Needless to say, these Kenda tires are sayanora once the wheels are rebuilt...

Oh, and of course - an IRC Roadwinner II Duro tire (pulled off my Raleigh Alyeska).
