1980 Schwinn Voyageur 11.8 Chrome. Just bought it a week ago, but 100 miles on it already. Its my commuter and I'm getting ready for my first mini-tour (100 mile 3 day camping trip) with it. The brooks that it came with was poorly maintained and cracked, I've replaced it with the black b17 I already had. Also swapped over a set of Shimano clipless/platform hybrid pedals that I had on my last bike. Loving it so far.

Here's mine. I got the frame on June 21 1980. It's a Freschi. Most of the parts are from the same period. I don't ride it anymore.

This is my 1974 Raleigh touring bike...


About the only thing original is the frame with the replacement components being a mixture of old and new parts. By installing an old White Industries 22-34-46 mountain bike crankset the bike retains low gearing without the need of a big heavy touring cluster...


Can anyone recommend a good sturdy rear touring rack that bolts directly onto the braze ons without mounting straps or adaptors?
I'll also ask in the touring section...

Thanks. I've been really pleased with how the build turned out, and it's a very comfortable riding bike.
I searched long and far to find an old fashioned crankset that would accept very small chainrings and yet didn't look like a mountain bike crank. Just ordered a set of really cool all black road chainrings to match the black frame.

Here is my light touring Motobecane. I use it as my main work commuting bike. Very smooth shifting and nice relaxed ride. It has a mix of Shimano and Suntour stuff plus MAFAC brakes. I put an old set of 27" Dura Ace wheels on it. A classy way to tour to the next coffee house or cafe!

Hi Chris, Great Motobecane - do you know what model it is?. Does it have the Vitus 172 Double butted or Vitus 888 straight gauge tubing?

Attached is a pic of my Raleigh Trent Sports circa approx 1958. It's the "poor man's Lenton Clubman" for club riding and light touring in the English manner. I've recently upgraded the wheels to 700C Sun CR18's with Panaracer Paesella tires and a refurbished S/A FW four speed hub and 19T cog; am planning on switching to a 20 or 21T cog. It rides amazingly well for an old bike and doesn't beat me up like my TREK used to. With the Brooks B72 and relaxed frame angles, it makes for a comfy ride. PG.

I have posted a former setup with the same bike, and I switched the drivetrain again so here are some new pics. I really like this setup now and plan to keep it basically the same with maybe a few minor tweaks.

Early Eighties Grand Touring. Has the 888 steel. It has one of the newer Bontragger rear racks - o.k. for light stuff. When I got this bike it was in pretty rough shape but cleaned up very nicely! This spring I changed out the wheels and put all older set of Dura Ace wheels on it. The silver SKB fender give it a nice classic look.

freaking sweet cranks! what length are they? classic obsolete and short live 94 BCD, I have a set of ritcheys (suginos) with 94 BCD and hidden bolt, pain in the a$$ design but worth it for the 180mm length and because I can run 22/36/46.

Those look like syncros rings too... sweet.

Looks great, Anton. Glad you found a spot where the snow was cleared! I put studded tires on my Super Course this morning and took a test ride around the block. Those tires don't do much in the deep snow that was piled up just about everywhere.

thanks, and good eye, bikedued. yes, indeed, the tape needs shellac. i've never shellacked before: should i go clear or amber? my goal is to match the saddle and toe clip straps. won't amber shellac darken the cotton too much?

thanks. heh, no way i'm making this a winter bike. i just used the wall two doors up from me as a backdrop since everything i've shot has thus far been in my grungy basement!
