Mine is a French market model, that's all. I think they thought differently for the US market. And I do believe that on the other side of Your crankarms there might be labelled "made in Japan"...

Here's my 1985 Trek 620 touring bike. I am still deciding if I am going to keep it. I am 5'-7" and normally ride a 54cm but this one is a 57cm so it just fits a little different than normal. It is a nice ride though and really comfortable so I may hang on to it. I found it exactly as pictured with all the bags, etc. set out for the garbage man to haul to the dump not far from my house. I confirmed it was to be thrown away by checking with the homeowner.

centurion elite gt
picked this up over the weekend.
1984 centurion elite gt. I think it was supposed to be a 5 speed, but it was upgraded at some point to 7 in the rear. Kind of a big ding in the toptube and a repaint at some point, but I couldn't resist.
My first tourer and my fourth centurion. Going to get some fenders and a bar bag and call it a day.

This ice-blue beauty is featured elsewhere in the Forums, but I suppose she deserves to be in here with all the other beautiful and functional touring rigs
Had her out a couple hours today, running around town getting errands done. It was really nice to leave the car at home and the gearing is just awesome. This is fast becoming my most favorite all-weather bike.

That's an Ortlieb waterproof handlebar bag and a nice, tube-carrying-sized Topeak under the saddle. It's nice to now have some luggage space! I still have to Drew the non-original (and badly positioned) cantilever bosses. Enjoy.

I went for a nice relaxing bike ride this morning and got a couple of nice pictures of my 1973 Schwinn Paramount P15-9 as it is currently set up.

My Lotus Eclair Tourer is also my go to grocery/commuter. I made some changes for my new winter commute. It still needs new bar tape and some other minor stuff but I snapped a few pics so I thought I'd show them. It's now sporting
32mm Panaracer Pasela's - thanks Colonel Sanders.
Bluemels - thanks Colonel Sanders
new wheels - 9 speed 34t large in the rear, nexus dyno in the front.
I ditched the front rack because after having it on there for 2 years I realized I never use it. It probably will get a handlebar bag though as I like to hold my bagel in it while I'm riding to work

this bike is at the upper end of what I ride size wise. That said, it's so comfortable I could fall asleep on it.

^ Wow! That's really sharp. I love the light blue and white. Excellent work!
Are those Dirt Drop bars? I guess you like them?

the fenders worked really well because they have ample clearance (looks like i could have gotten away with 35's at least) and they match the white on the frame.
Dirt drops came for like $10 a few years ago from a swap meet. Yes, they're ugly but they're perfect for riding in the drops all day. I've been running this setup for two years or so. I don't really worry too much about the aesthetic of this bike but I do think it still looks cool. Just not a vintage part snob with it, I want it to perform reliably and be super comfortable.

^ I don't think I did a good job of writing that question above. I don't think the Dirt Drops look bad at all. I just assumed that you liked them because they're on your bike and you (presumably) had other options. I've been considering using some Dirt Drops for sometime now, but haven't decided on the bike on which to try them.

Looks good. I like the look of the handlebar, too. What exactly is it? Googling "Dirt Drop" isn't bringing it up... but then, maybe I'm not very good at Google....

no, I was stating my opinion: I think the bars arent the best looking. You're not finding anything because they're actually "the Midge" made by On One.

but yeah, you might still suck at Google like me.....

Interesting: The Midge looks pretty good on your bike, at least in those photos, but looks terrible in their promo photo. I might like to try it, though.

I thought they were these, the WTB Dirt Drop bars. I don't think there's much difference.

if we ever ride a century chances are good I could bring the above bike and you can try them if you can handle the largeness that is the LOTUS!
btw, I have some WTB Dirt Drops coming too from another forum member. I'll be able to compare.

This is my bike for "light" touring.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/1717046...7625334406359/
And this is the ride I'm building up for next year's long tours.

I'm still deciding on racks for my bags. Since this photo was taken, I've wrapped the bars in brown and added a honey colored Brooks B17 flyer.

That's a fully fledged touring bike in my book. Canti brakes, extra eyelets on the dropouts, longish chainstays... those are the big differentiators, in terms of the frame & fork, anyway.

My first light tourer. 1984 Trek 420. Somewhere along the line it lost its Simplex Derailleurs and picked up a set of Acera's. It also picked up a set of SLR aero brake levers.
Best part is it is missing its 27 inch wheels and Mallard Helocmatic 6 speed and has a a set of Polished CR18 on 105 hubs with a 7speed 13-30 HG cassette. I bought it to flip but it is nice rider just needing a good cleaning and a little touch up paint. I had picked one of these up a couple years ago in a 58cm that was just a tad small. this is a 61 and right in my comfort zone. I'm thinking I may hold onto this for a while and part with one of the others.

1983 Nishiki Cresta.
Bike is completely dissembled right now and getting an up graded drive train for 2011.
The Nishiki came as a 15 speed with Suntour Mountech. I found a donor 18 speed 1983 Trek 400 last summer at a garage sale for 10 bucks, the frame was 25.5 but the Suntour VX parts look good.

ilikebikes - I love your Comedian pin - I take it you're and Alan Moore fan?
Frogbutter - I had a Nishiki (Sport) in that color scheme. Probably my second favorite of all the bikes I've owned. Unfortunately, it was a good 10 cm too small (literally!)
Here's my humble submission. I bought this a couple weeks ago from a guy who said he bought it at a PX in Japan when he was stationed there in the 80's. Brought it home, and it's more or less been hanging in the garage since then. I don't know about that, as it's pretty chipped up and has a couple minor dents in the seat tube, but it is rather clean otherwise. What you see is just a good cleaning and waxing. The only non-original parts are the tires, cables, saddle and bar tape, which is temporary. I also reversed the brake levers (right front, left rear) a la Sheldon to see if I liked it...we'll see...I'm going for a shakedown snow ride later on today.
Anybody have any suggestions for a good bar tape color? I'm thinking cloth/shellac, but could be coerced into going with cork...
Also, excuse the fenders - I need a longer wine cork on the back to get the alignment just right...

I've posted this bike in other places but I don't think it's in this thread. Here's my 1983 Schwinn Voyageur SP. I rebuilt the front wheel with a Shimano 3N72 hub and the rack now has an IQ Cyo mounted on it. I've got some VO fenders that will be going on too, but I can't open them until Christmas.
I still need to find a suitable rear rack, and I'd like to find a front rack that mounts to the rack bosses on the fork crown. They didn't put the lowrider bosses on the blades until 1984.

Brockd15,
Could you post some pictures of your crown? I'm interested to see the rack bosses on the crown you mentioned - I've never seen a fork with rack bosses on the crown....
Thanks!
