Lacing a Brooks

Hello all,

Recently i discovered that if i lace up my B17 (on a steel roadie), i get rid of the only annoyance i have with this saddle - sliding toward the center of the hammock, which results in numbness.

Ii just used a regular shoe lace. It tore, after a few rides. I now relaced it, but would like to know what is best to use for lacing a Brooks.

Thanks

Next time, try a leather boot lace. You get two in a package so you can have a spare or lace another saddle!

I know craft stores carry leather strips on a small spool for making jewelry/necklaces, which might be another option.
Although, you might have to loosen and re-tie if the leather (boot lace or other) starts to stretch. Not sure if the craft store stuff would be more stretchy.

leather is not as strong or as long lasting as waxed cotton cord. that's what I used on mine. It hasn't needed tightening in over a year of riding.

How about some photos guys? :)

I haven't laced a brooks saddle, but I find that Hemp twine is appropriate for most applications.

That is elegantly chopped and laced. I like it. Looks like a Professional now.

I used black parachute cord with the innards removed. 5 holes on each side, looped back and forth then wrapped around all of the crossing strands to tension it before tying it off. No chopping for me.

I'm also interested in seeing some unchopped and laced saddles. I'm wanting to do the B17 I own, as it spreads more than I'd like now that it's getting broken in. Not that it's uncomfortable or anything, just that pushing on the sit bone area with my thumb makes the sides stick out an inch further. It looks better, and feels like it could support more with the sides held in.,,,,BD

Anybody? Sitting here 4 feet from my Voyageur, and a leather hole punch within reach.,,,,BD

EDIT Too late, already done. The leather hole punch was also made in England, so it
was like it was meant to be, lol. The first sit was all it took. It has all the sit bone comfort, with no sag.
If I wasn't worried about screwing up the original B-15 on the SS, I would do it as well.

Please post a pic or two. I have a B-17 Champion Special on my Trek that is doing the same thing. I re-tensioned it after 30 miles in the rain had made it sag.
