Viscaya is farther southeast, in Coconut Grove.

If you're thinking of the ride to Key Biscayne, this isn't it. I figure its too stressful for those part-time VLW riders...and until the DOT fixes the rest of that mess of curbs and so called "bike lanes" that zig-zag in improbable fashions, I won't bother with it.

P.S.: Last time I was down in the Viscaya area, I nearly got run over by some aspholes while standing by a kerb next to a park.

Far as I'm concerned, there is no sense in going down around the Viscaya area on weekends, for everyone else goes there to enjoy their weekend as well - and by that I mean that they come to the park with the mentality of "I'm going to enjoy myself, and I'll wrestle/attack/kill anyone else who gets remotely in my way."

Shame, I always like Viscaya and when my friend and I were "suicidal" we'd ride out
to Matheson Hammock.
I have to admit I think the stupidest thing I ever did was ride through Liberty City.

Viscaya and the Grove isn't bad - it just isn't great. Too much traffic now for my tastes, although I'm not afraid of tangling with it, at least, when riding westbound (eastbound has a bike lane, and that's bad enough for me). Matheson Hammock is still no better, and I refuse to use their god awful excuse of an MUP, which was probably developed with the sole intention in mind of putting all those useless dual-suspension MTBs to use.

Liberty City is still dangerous to drive through today, but for different reasons - you may get nailed by a fixie rider. . I'm exaggerating, of course, but there are some fixiers in that neck of the woods.

Take care,

-Kurt

I wish we had a retro bike day here in Tampa so I wouldn't have to ride my 10speed toe-clipped, down-tube-shifted Campy NR 1978 Paramount up against the carbon fiber Dura-ace 20speeds...

I wouldn't complain about that - I'm sure it is fun to see the expression on their faces - "How is he keeping up?"
