Another eBay Scam

I recently noticed this beautiful bike on Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...2741&rd=1&rd=1
and thought where have I seen this before? Well it was here(pics may be gone):
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...132743800&rd=1

Interesting that no feedback has been given/received on the UK auction, and the US auction had the identical pictures and description. The US seller has offered to sell it to me 'Buy it now', I said sure, I'll pick it up in PA Monday, he said, oh I've moved to Orlando, FL so I say, great, even better, my brother is in Orlando, he can pick it up this weekend. Well no, that won't work, let me ship it to you free, using a 3rd party service.

Yes, I reported everything to eBay, so far they have decided not to act on it. If anyone here is bidding on this bike, be aware that it probably does not exist.

Its a scam, just read the description, looks and sounds just like the scammers on criags list just the fact that its in Paris France, New Castle, PA, United States, and now Florrida should raise a red flag! My daughter had her auction, pics and description, stolen from her auction, it happens a lot, my daughter reported it to ebay and they did nothing, not surprising.

Here is what I asked him:

Hello, very nice bike. I do have a question-that is why is it the same bike and text as shown in this listing? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...132743800&rd=1 Are you in the U.K. or the U.S.A? If in the U.S.A., I would like to pick it up locally or have an agent do so. Is that acceptable?

His reply:

Hello,

i`m in USA.Yes,i`ll ship your package if we agree with the price. The bike is already at the shipping company and it was inspected (it`s ready to be shipped).
They will take care of everything (packing your item and shipping to your exactly zip code).I`ll cover all the shipping fees to your zip,so no need to worry regarding the shipping.if you want i can make you a price and if we agree about the price..the bike is yours.
Let me know your thoughts.

Best wishes!!!

It would appear that he did not answer my question. Oh well, it was fun asking.....

So...I sent him a follow up.

I think you dodged the questions I asked you earlier. Where is the bike located so I may have an agent pick it up rather than shipping it? Also, why is it the exact same ad that ran earlier from outside the country? Please answer these questions, I do not wish to buy when I feel you are being evasive. Thanks!

This guy could care less that we know, and he knows that ebay will probly do nothing so hes going to try to lure someone into bidding by having four phoney bidders, notice that no one can contact the bidders? that tells me that they just might be phoney, these guys score big if someone bids, so Ive alerted all of my friends about it you guys should do the same

Maybe if everyone reported him to eBay?

I found it interesting that the bike on the UK site has had no feedback on the sale from the buyer or seller. Also, he has hijacked a real person's account in New Castle, PA. I got a spoofed eBay email from him that showed the hijacked accounts owner, and looked it up in the tax records, but couldn't find a phone number to notify the guy.

I have had great luck on eBay, but if they don't act on obvious fraud, it will definitely change my buying habits.

I suppose the old adage fits, 'If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is'.

BTW, the email I have for him is sagalnic@yahoo.com, and the name on the spoofed e-mail is Robert Seinker.

Last e-mail I got was :
I`ll send you the package thru a 3rd party service like eBay recommends for new eBay members.Do you know how 3rd party service works? If not,i can explain it to you.Let me know.
I look forward to hearing from you.

I did find out something of interest in my amateur investigation, though. If you go to your 'My eBay' page, and click on 'preferences' under 'My Account', towards the bottom, under 'General Preferences' there is a category called 3rd Party Authorizations. I had a 3rd party in there that was definitely NOT authorized, and immediately deleted it.

I would suggest everyone here check this. Mine showed up after I bought a bike in the Spring, but there has been no unauthorized activity on my account (looking for real wood to knock on).

I checked mine, there were several.

I think they had to do with independent check out services, but I deleted them anyway.

Thanks for the info!

eBay claims to be offering insurance on the sales. Is eBay insurance real or bogus; like the bike lock insurance?

I reported the guy to ebay, too. They don't make it easy to do, and the auto reply says they will not report on the outcome. Unfortunately, the listing is still active.

A co-worker has encountered this same scam with Jet-Ski's. He lived near one for sale in Minnesota and was told it was crated for shipping and in New York. Well, that raised a red flag. after contacting eBay he discovered that the account was hijacked in a phishing scam.
