Help researching a Merckx Track Bike
I recently came into possession of a Merckx track bike, from a regular customer at the bike shop where I work. I'd like to find out more about the frame, as I know very little. The guy I bought it from said he thought it was a 1983, but wasn't sure. I wrote down the numbers on the BB shell, but stupid me, I left the paper at work, with the bike. Oh well, I'll get it tomorrow. The only thing I remember for sure is that on the Drive side, there was a G marked, with no other letters or numbers.
Anyway, I was doing some research earlier in the week, and came up with a listing/archive of the serial numbers and bb markings from other vintage merckx's. Could anyone direct me to where it is?
As for a description, the bike is ~57cm, a brilliant blue color, with a full Campy track group, including seatpost (+seatpost clamp bolt!), headset, bb, and high-flange record hubs laced to Araya clincher rims. There isn't much on the bike by way of markings: there is the headbadge, Eddy Merckx written on the down tube, the images of spain and italy on the seattube, as well as the EM logo and a Columbus sticker. The bike didn't come with pedals or a saddle, so I threw a San Marco Rolls Titanio on it, and will be getting some campy pedals with toe clips sometime soon.
Thanks and I appreciate any info I might glean from you all.

The bike sounds fantastic - I can imagine why you want to find out all you can about its history.
I think the website you are asking about is http//www.cadre.org/Merckx/

OK, I got the actual numbers off of the bb shell. They are as follows:
Driveside: G
Non-Driveside: E 2346
Thats all the markings there were. I really hope I can get some help on this.

Send an email to Gita bikes, the US importer for Merckx. They should be able to answer all of your questions.
