question for mid-70's Fuji owners
For my '77 S10-S, i need handlebars which i have learned should be Nitto Olympiade. The stem on the bike is labeled Fuji, but is too short for me and needs to be replaced. I also need a set of brake levers (someone put on a mtb bar and levers).
So can someone tell me what brand of stem would be correct? And what brand and type of brake levers would be correct? TIA

My stem is a Nitto Dynamic forged, (it only says "Nitto Forged" on it) and the brake levers are Dia-Compe, standard fare aluminum hooded dealies with suicide levers. They are matched up with 500G sidepulls, which AFAIK are all original. Mine is a '78, I believe.

My junk/beater/commuter/experiment Fuji Allegro came with a short reach (90mm) Nitto stem and the Olympiade bars. I replaced the bars with an inexpensive set of moustache bars, which I like much better for commuting. The stock brakes are side-pull Dia-Compes, which to be honest, aren't that great. I'm a 210lb Clyde, and the calipers are a little flexy. They are going to be replaced soon with some beefier, mid-80's vintage, Dura-Ace units, that came in a box of Craigs List junk.
If you are interested, I'm sure we could work something out on the bar, and I would probably toss the brakes in. I'm not sure I'm comfortable having someone give me honest money for those. Also, in case you didn't know, the Olympiade bar is chrome plated steel, not aluminum. It has a very comfortable shape, although it is somewhat narrow. Despite its diminutive size, you would never confuse it with an aluminum bar.

I've got the stem too that matches those bars.
But if you want a stem with longer reach than the original one, take a look at a new Nitto Technomic, which comes in 10mm increments from 90 to 130 mm extension. AEbike.com has good prices, jenson.com too.
If you want either the original bars or stem--PM me. Together they are worth at most ten bucks. Shipping bars though runs 10 to 12 bucks itself. Tossing the stem into the box might add a dollar or two.
