A few questions regarding a Pinarello Prologo

Hey guys. Sorry if this is an annoying post, but I've been lurking here for some time and you guys are incredibly knowledgeable about this stuff. I also know there are some Pinarello fans on here.

So I have a chance to look at and possibly buy this beautiful Prologo, but I'm not sure how much it's worth. Supposedly the paint is in great shape, but the decals are (obviously) mostly gone. The Zipp is a track/7 speed flip/flop . There is a little rust on the chainstay, but I can't tell from the picture if it's seriously pitted or not. What do you think? Thanks in advance for any comments.

I think my back hurts!

otherwise nice bike. haven't got a clue what it's worth, but I like it.

Don't apologize for posting, thats what we are here for, and glad you're out
of lurker (not to be confused with luker) mode.

ah, luker mode is nothing to brag about...ya gotta hobo da bars, etc...this is a valuable bike and a valuable rear wheel...I've seen the wheel go for $200 to the right person on da bay. The bike may top out at $500. There's a guy on eBay from Australia that can replace your decals for not so much. (Name? like gts53 or something. Help us out here!)

Somebody got sick of the c Record brakes and shifting and so replaced that stuff with dura ace. It'd be nice, if you go the full resto, to put it back to cRecord....

I'd betcha lotek is right; if it is nice to ride I'll be amazed. I rode a Nishiki to 57 min in the 40km tt once. My personal best, ever. I tried to ride one a couple of years ago and couldn't even hold a line. But, there's a poster of Big Mig pounding along on one of these in a TDF time trial; you see 'em on eBay every so often. This bike would look really cool with that poster.

If you got the funds....buy it. It is some cool bike history. They aren't so bad to ride, but my seat isn't nearly that high, oh and for casual rides I throw risers on for faster ones Moscow bars (don't bother flaming that, i have heard it all)

SugarPill, I love your bike!! I have a Limongi TT frame and fork that I have never built up and I think that your bike might just be the motivation I need to totally wreck my back.

I think I might know your bro, Pla Cebo...

Thanks fellas.... I tell you what, my back is fine, i have a couple track bikes with a slightly steeper drop... s this thing is a breeze.... actually my most comfortable ride (as soon as the saddle gets replaced) 10$ saddle on a money bike... and it feels like a 10$ saddle.

HA, I wanted placebo as my handle but it was taken...

Oh, and Delicious... it is a sweet bike... what size is it.

I want to see that frame... I love the pursuit/TT frame geometry.

well I figured with a 3Rensho, Kalavinka etc. that the drop wouldn't bother
you.
I actually have quite a steep drop on my Pogliaghi track bike and it's not
that bad on the back, looks much worse than it is.

I'd go for a concor, maybe a rolls for that one.

I dig that Pog of your ( if it is the one I am thinking of)... i am thinking I am about to sell off a few of those bikes...

Actually... I am trying to get this guy to hook me up with a black leather campagnolo electa pneumatic saddle... that why I have that one on there now. And as luck would have it i just traded for a campy ergal freewheel... I am a rolling promotion.

SugarPill,

Do you like the Electa saddle? I've heard very mixed reviews
on it (duh you're getting another, so yah you like it).
the only Electa I like are Sonus Faber Electa Amator speakers
(ok I'm a closet Italophile, I admit it).

Did you ride at penrose?

No I havent ridden a Electa, I don't own one already either. I have read some good things... not so many bad. School me... I don't know much about them.

Penrose.... never heard of it? so I guess no.

While I've always liked the look of the Electa I've heard (and note
I've never ridden one) that 1) the bladder doesn't do too much and
2) sometimes can be problematic. I think this was posted on CR list
recently, I'll try to look it up in the archives.
Penrose ? track in Mo. I think it's closed down now.
so, with your penchant for TT and track frames you ride the boards at all?
btw your 3Rensho is gorgeous.

I went and saw it the other day. The pictures really don't do it justice, it's pretty amazing in person. I ended up offering $800 because he was including the original seat and seatpost and the original NISI tubular wheelset. As far as the fit - like SugarPILL said, it was actually more comfortable than the track bike I've ridden track around the streets for a while now. I'll find out Saturday if I get it or not.

Also SugarPILL: Does 3ttt make the Moscow bars? I think those are on what's on the bike now.

Sugarpill,

Ok, according to the fundi's at CR list the problem isn't the saddle but the pump.
Apparently they break down with age (and these are what 20 years old?).

Good to know, i figured the first part to go would be the pump... i thought it would be the easiest to retrofit/ vs some problem with the saddle itself... and yea they are pretty cool looking.. i see them on fleabay all the time, just haven't made the plunge.

Oh, that Penrose track is long gone... I even forgot about it.. I lived in Ny and Chicago for long stints, I for get the track in Queens I liked after it was renovated.. it wasn't wood though. North of Chicago there was a pretty nice place Rudolph or something like that.. Its been awhile. I have been trying to advocate for one here, there is a lot of interest and a lot of cyclists but lately finding out that the city itself is not really "bike friendly" on a whole lot of different levels. We are trying to change that..but its not going to fast. Although there has been some whispers of one possibly in the West bottoms area here, but no real confirmations.

Thanks, the 3Rensho is a lovely ride, i was a bit obsessed with the history of the company for awhile. I had a Makino as well but had to sell it to get the colnago. But the nicest riding frame I have ever been on is the Kalavinka, it is really amazing, super compact, with barely any toe overlap, handles very nice.
post a pic of your Pog again.

Delicious

Yep I have a 3ttt Moscow for my colnago, but it is a bit of a stretch when its on... Although those on the pic you posted look more like the cinelli tt bars to which I can't remember the name, my Moscows have alot of tight bends with straight portions, the cinelli have nice round bends almost like a road bar upside down cut short. The moscows at the ends shoot straight up about 5 inches or so.

Also that would be a pretty good price for that set up i would think, I think there is a prologo on ebay you could compare it too... I love white discs. good lucks

Edit---

lotek, Penrose track I think is still around, It is in St. Louis Mo.. I was thinking of the one that used to be in Kansas City mo, which has been gone for ages. Thanks for bringing it up, I think I will plan a trip there to do some riding, I have family there...

L.A. 84's? I am lucky enough to have an INDOOR velodrome that is a proper 200mm and very steep here in vancouver. If you are a hardcore trackie I am sure you know of it since there are very few indoor dromes. With the weather here it is essential. I only started riding there this summer and am moving to Victoria in december to I won't even get to enjoy it. Worst part is I hear next summer will be the last on the outdoor track in Victoria!

Lotek, I take it you hit the boards with your Pog? I do so with my Marinoni which is probably my most meticulous restoration to date... I even slapped NOS SL pedal on it last time I was there. I love that bike, I guess after next summer it becomes a living room piece till I move to a city with a track again.

SugarPill the Queens track is Kissena (my cousin lived within spittin distance).

I'm lucky in that the Frisco Superdrome is about 5 miles from my house.

Here's the Pog again.
