What's the general consensus on a Sagres?

There's a guy locally that I met through CL, that wants to sell me a Fuji Sagres. The condition looks to be very good, right down to the tires. Of course it could be just the camera making them look good. The frame is Valite(sp?) and the components look gold anodized. It might be haze or the lighting though. The unfortunate part is that I cannot possibly ride it, and I will have to transfer all the parts over to another frame. It's a 27 inch, the owner is a good four inches taller than me, if not more.,,,,BD

Here's a pic. Has Suntour AR, maybe ARX? part of the lettering looks worn off. I've yet to find a Suntour component I didn't like.

Might be a good post for iso/wtb.

That's a nice bike...but I'm a fan of Fuji bikes save for one small time period when they were testing the department store waters.

If you can't ride it though...what's the point?

Valite is a good frame material-- nearly equal to cromoly, and when you factor in the effect brazing has on the two metals, Valite is virtually the equal of cromoly.

The point? (Step 1)Buy a frame from my local flea market guy. (Step 2)Transfer the parts over to it. (Step 3)Ride it:D.,,,,BD

Oops forgot step 4. Pass the frame onto someone tall who wants a very clean frame to build....

Oops again. (Step 5) Install the frame pump on my 11.8....

If you're tall like me (193cm), buy it for the height factor alone. It's a decent enough Japanese bike and they are hard to find in this size. It's sure better than buying one of those massive Schwinns of the same era that are easy to find in that size range...

I'm 6-3 with a 36-inch inseam. I can just barely ride one of those. If the price is reasonable, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I have 2 ValLite Fuji's and a Cro-Mo one, too, and I'm a big fan of them. Very nice riding bikes.

Man, that's gonna be some reach down to those shifters, though!

Ha, my first thought was you won't be able to use the pump either since I doubt it will compress enough to fit anything smaller.
