I just wanted to thank you guys for many things...

1) Thanks for being here to let me know it was OK to prefer the old school bikes and thanks for all the bike porn.

2) Thanks for answering even the stupidest of my questions.

3) Thanks for motivating me to take overhaul classes. I had never, in my wildest dreams, thought that something like replacing bearings on a BB that could barely move would bring me such joy.

4) Thanks for sharing all the mistakes you guys have made so I don't have to make them. Especially thanks for the warnings on not forcing things and that I should really not use a hammer. Because I've wanted to.

As my first project bike draws to a close, I am totally amazed at how "new" it feels, and well everything works. It makes me want to breathe life into every old, forlorn, abandoned bike I see. It has been really fun, and REALLY EXPENSIVE.

It still amazes me how much people share knowledge here.

I have to say that this forum is much easier to moderate than any of the others
here at BF.
I'm not totally sure why, but I sure appreciate it.
One of the things I do see is that we don't see the typical grumbling, sniping
and flame wars that occur on other forums, and mailing lists, and I know that
we have a good many folks here who do participate in both.

Solveg, on behalf of the C&V (cranky&vintage) crowd let me say Its a pleasure.
but I do have a question about your location (on your profile), it shows St. Paul Mn. and

I think solveg travels a lot, and it's a family place in Kansas. But she actually lives in MN. And she takes her dogs to shows so that they can do fun dog stuff :) .

As to the post, i love it here to and i have thanked everyone on this forum for the same things solveg did. infact when i started riding again, i was all about mountain biking, but after seeing all the flame wars i started hanging out in here. coincidently i fell in love with bikes that are older than i am and completely transformed my love for the sport.
Edit: Sorry East Hill, i didint see you had already replied to the Marty's quote. I was so excited to know something for once. I just hit reply, haha.

I agree with Lotek (and everyone else for that matter) that C&V is a little slice of heaven in the cycling world. It is the easiest to Moderate, and I really enjoy hanging out around here so this is where I come most often, and always when I need to get away from other mod-ly duties for a bit.

The C&V crowd treated me just the same when I first came around here with my beat up lowly Schwinn Traveler, they answered my noob-ish questions, and most of all made me feel welcome. Now looking back to see what all they've gotten me into, I wouldn't change a thing!

I think it's because we're all grown-ups here; even the kids like Jon and Kurt:D.

Wow! Good memory East Hill. But my family place is in Northern MN. The Kansas place, believe it or not, is my "winter home" instead of the typical Florida. OK, so I spend Dec, Jan and part of Feb in MN because I love winter, but I go to Kansas in the spring and fall to extend the season. I bought a tiny place next door to my best friend a little rural town. It's quite exotic compared to my "real" home in the Twin Cities.

Believe me, THERE WILL BE PHOTOS! But I'm not done yet. I was just so relieved I got through the BB phase that I was mentally celebrating. Should be done in 4-5 days.

Oh, and I was having lunch with a friend and showing him the bike, and he said, "You're not going to be one of those old ladies with 40 cats are you? Except that the cats will be bikes?"

I'll remember the places/scenarios next time!

What's wrong with being a little old lady with 40 cats or 40 bikes? The 40 bikes won't smell quite the way 40 cats would.

For the record, I have 3 cats, 3 snakes, and a dermestid beetle colony :) . And, of course, 12 bikes.

And a great husband.

I'm amazed. Ya think that firesign theater in our collective subconscious is somehow linked to the inexplicable desire to stitch old bicycles back together? nah, it wuz probably just the drugs.

Since I can't indulge in an obsession of vintage and very expensive cars I get to obsess over bicycles and guitars. My wife bless her is the true meaning of patience with me and my obssessions and I hers, she goes bonkers over quilting and embroidery and has the REALLY pricy machines to prove it I guess all things being even I have nearly as much money tied up in guitars and bikes as she does sewing gear. I do trade the occasional guitar for a different one or perhaps an amplifier though. This forum rocks I have learned about bikes I never knew existed, being from a small midwest town we never heard about such machines a Bianchi, Cinelli Colnago and even Pugeuot (sp) so now I can blame my ever intensfying insanity over such thing on this fourm and be glad when I do. Thanks guys you all rock.

For about a year I posted about 50/50 here and on 50+ (despite not quite being that age, but not far away), and in February or March, gave it up. The reason, the lack of respect for women. The expression, "Dirty old men," really did apply. East Hill tried to tolerate them in her kind and friendly way, but even those guys (who should know better) launced an attack on us when we gently pointed this out and suggested they didn't need to be so sexist.

In the end, I'm glad I'm not wasting time there any longer. They really didn't "get" vintage bikes. I'd suggest someone try riding a Collegiate--- and the thread would end. :D Three cheers for C&V--- Civil & Valient!
