http://images.craigslist.org/0102090...1de0009984.jpg http://images.craigslist.org/0101050...03c500d456.jpg Thinkin of picking this up tomorrow. Seems to be an early 80s Premio. Scoured BF and Google, couldn't find any information about the earlier Premios. I did find out that newer premios were manufactured in Japan, Taiwan, and Italy - the main identifier being BB size. I believe this was Bianchi's bottom rung road bike - and most other info indicates it might be pretty heavy. The seller seems to know nothing about the bike. He said there's no visible rust or dmg, picked it up at a garage sale a while back and hasn' ridden for 2 years. Any info about this bike? Things I should be looking out for? (aside from the usual) (I did see something about some Premios having rare Campy hubs so I'll be on the lookout for those, but are there any specific things I should take note of?) Much appreciated ! |
Buy it now. It probably gone. I bought a Piaggio last week. no complaints. I also own a Premio I think its later 80s because of its aero bars. Mine is cromo double butted ride and handles like an expensive bike. From the picture it looks like a small frame. Even if it doesnt fit he is throwing in extras. What can you buy these days at a bike shop for $60 bucks? Go for it. Its a no brainer, you cant loose. Good luck

Bianchi Premio
I agree with the previous thread buy it aside from the things that might be wrong with a bike of this age it was still built to Bianchi specs whether it was built in Aisia or Italy

I'd buy it! I know that krntourist is looking for a smaller frame--I think this would work for him.
If not, well, I'll be back in California next year in April for the next Bike Around the Buttes! :D East Hill |
I sold my Premio from the mid-80's to a friend. It had very nice Campy hubs and rims. The frame appeared to be "Made in Taiwan". A very nice riding bike. The "Premio" name seems to have been used for a variety of somewhat different road bikes over the years.

Well krntourist, did you get it? The posting's been deleted by the author...

So I did pick up the Premio, seems alright other than bent wheels.
I took it for a short 8mi ride to the beach as soon as I picked it up, and other than the bumpy ride -LA streets are to blame, not the bike- everything worked just fine. Well.. maybe not so much the brakes. I survived somehow. My earlier guesstimation was incorrect. It's a 86'-87' Premio made in Taiwan w/Tange Infinity tubing. Flimsy Araya Wheels, Dia-Comp Brakes, Sugino cranks.. etc. Hubs didn't seem to be anything special - just says "sealed bearing," if memory serves. It's a 48cm so a bit on the small side, but it was definitely rideable. Here are the pics: (Please excuse the quality of the pictures, as I only have access to a Camera Phone at the moment) http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2.../IMAGE_023.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2.../IMAGE_025.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2.../IMAGE_024.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2.../IMAGE_027.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2.../IMAGE_028.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2.../IMAGE_026.jpg I think it will fix up quite nicely. Perhaps new set of wheels/tires, brakes, and nice cleanup will make it shine like new. Wondering whether I should build it for my brother, or take on another little project, as I'm working on a Schwinn fixie (blasphemy, i know!).. If I decide to part with it, are you interested at all East Hill? How's the Nishiki doin? |
It should clean up nice. Hows the the bike rack?Based on that 86 87 world champ sticker does that make it an 88?

And... does the 86-87 world champ sticker make it an 88'? ..Please excuse my obliviousness :( |
In the original add thats now deleted. If im not mistaken he said Ill throw in a bike carrier( for your car) and it was pictured next to the bike. On your pic of the downtube there is a sticker that says Campione del Mondo86 87. I was wondering its significance to those that are knowledgable.
