Frame suggestions

I posted this in the Road forum but i thought i might get some more interesting responses here

I have been collecting parts and now I have a nearly complete Dura Ace 8sp sti group. Everything i have is 74xx series. Shifters, brakes, crankset, derailuers, seat post and headset. I am still on the look out for some 7400 series 8sp hubs or a wheelset and a cassette.

Now I need a frame. I want steel, something period correct, or something older that would be nice with upgraded parts.

What are some frames worthy of these parts or what do you guys think would be a cool build? I was thinking some sort of high end Japanese frame but I need some input

Out of my limited stable, I would use my Centurion Ironman Master. Nice Tange lugged steel.

I think the group would be comfortable on any nice lugged steel frame.

If you're patient perhaps you could find a nice 3rensho frame... certainly Japanese, certainly worthy of any group you'd put on one. If you're interested PM sashae, he may be able to provide some places to look.

Put them on a nice De Rosa or Merckx, works for me.

I would love 3rensho, but what do they run, i know the track bike always fetch a fair amount, and im assuming since i have only seen like 2 of them in road bike form that they are going to be quite a bit more

Miyata's my suggestion... But I'm kind of biased, I run my Twelve Hundred lugged steel with 7400 components.

first buy the house

I am sure you can find a nice frame. I think you should buy the house first and furnish it afterwards.

How about a nice Paramount? Maybe a Waterford era one would look nice. There a lot of frames that are equal, but none better. Good luck

I admit it wouldn't be cheap, but that component group would look spectacular on one of those Merckx Team Motorola replica frames, and it's what the team rode.
Serotta steel would also be a nice match, and many of them ride very nicely.

There are literally hundreds of appropriate answers for that question. But you didn't tell use whether the bottom bracket you obtained was English or ltallian, which would narrow the field. And how interested are you in in the aesthetics and collectibility? What kind of ride quality/geometry are you looking for?

I'm preparing to do a similar (in spirit at least) conversion on a 1984 Trek 760.

Very good points. So i have an English threaded GT titanium BB that came with the cranks, apparently it was used on a tri bike but not very often both the cranks and the bb look basically new.

Im dont really care one way or the other about collectabillity and in terms of aesthetics I wouldn't mind something from the early 90's color scheme wise. Bright neons or fades.

And as far as geometry goes I want a race bike, fairly steep angles and stiff.

Thanks for your help.

This was my original intention when i started collecting, I have and 89 C'dale 3.0 that it was going to go on but its a tad to big and I'm not really a huge fan of AL.
