Old touring bike

I have an 83 Centurion Pro Tour 15 touring bike. I have updated the components and replaced the 27" wheels with 700c. The bike appears to be a lugged frame of butted Champion #2 chro mo steel. Is there any reason that I should not do fully loaded long tours on this bike? Are the newer bikes that much better? I use four panniers and average 40 pound or less loads. Thanks, Rich

As long as the frame is in good shape I don't see any reason not to tour with it. That is what it was meant to do, after all. Have any pictures?

That's one of the best production touring bikes you'll find, from any era. A top of the line, no-compromise tourer from the "golden age of the touring bike."
