Guess what came in a box today?

Inside all the careful packaging, was a royal purple (or perhaps it's a few shades closer to Indigo) masterpiece, freshly painted by the one and only Dr. Deltron!!!

The Trek 760 (which except for the color is the same thing as the Trek 770 Marty :) ), made it back before I was able to finish building up the new wheels. I did take some pictures, but I'm kind of pressed for time right now. I'll have them up later - provided my son doesn't monopolize the other computer all night.

Patience, patience...

All I can say is, Dr. D outdid himself - and this on a free paint job! I'm even more excited to get (patience, patience Z - following my own advice :D) Shadowfax back home.
THANK YOU DR. DELTRON!!!!!!

I would like to see pics of the frame before you build it up.
Nothing smells as good as new paint.

Sorry, but I am going to have to say WORTHLESS POST WITHOUT PICS.

Pics, pics!

My turn to be demanding.:)

samsmeg 09-12-07 03:59 PM

Yep, pics, I want to see!

Roll-Monroe-Co 09-12-07 04:16 PM

How do I get on the list for the free Dr. Deltron paint job?

Just PM me. No need to tell the whole world. I may want to get more than one bike done.:D

See post #4! ^

Actually, it was a "contest" that I posted with what I thought was a fool-proof "catch".

Z proved me WROOONG!

:roflmao:

Shot my own foot on THAT one! (glad I have 2!)

 John! Enjoy! :D

The other contestant was PastorBob! The rest of you just ignored my offer.
:p

Cool, Z (at least I suspect so, even w/o the visuals!)

USAZorro 09-12-07 09:29 PM

Alright friends. You want pictures? Here's a teaser and the link to the folder I've started. Was in a bit of a rush tonight and couldn't get more.

This one came closest to showing the true color. Most of the other shots make it look more blue than it really is. It is about as purple/indigo as color can get.

Looks good Zorro!

Sooo, Dr. D, you running any more contest any time soon? :D

divineAndbright 09-12-07 09:44 PM

Gorgeous! Actually purple has been my favorite color for a bike lately, i'm aching for a purple cycle!

Gary Fountain 09-13-07 01:21 AM

Lovely. It will be difficult to put wheels on it.

And oh how I tried! But despite my best efforts, and even with a few hints from the Good Doctor, John was the more intuitive sleuth.

But not being a sore looser, I soon there after packaged up the Super Sport frame I bought from el twe and the fork I traded for from Sierra. Sent both to Dr. D. for some serious rehabilitation. Then there was Decalgate. Meanwhile, back in NH, I had my own wheel building fiasco (I ordered 27" rims, 700c's came, and then accidently laced to my hubs), but now I just picked up the rebuilt 27" wheels. :)

Since that time I've been pinning away. There have been days of sunshine when the dump yeilded a few amazing finds (including the one I'm currently working on).

But I've been , in a sad way, awaiting the day when my dear UPS/FedEx/DHL driver stops at the end of the driveway and delivers a box which looks similar to this one John found on his lawn the other day. O HAPPY DAY! :D

Excellent! Great work Dr. D

vpiuva 09-13-07 06:36 AM

My '84 760's fork crown's got paint on it. You tryin' ta' outdo me? :)

Nice. Stealth or will there be Trek decals in its future?

(And if it hadn't been a 760, I would've had to make an SNL skit based tasteless post)

John E 09-13-07 07:49 AM

The paint job looks great. When you can, please post pictures of the completed bike.

Z. that looks a damned sight better than than my 770, might have to
give Dr D (or David locally) a call.

Very nice paintjob, Kudo' to the good Dr. and
what are you going to build it up with?

Marty

USAZorro 09-13-07 08:32 AM

In answer to Marty's question - (long answer) - when I acquired it, it had Campagnolo (Super record I think) brakes, Shimano 105 indexed, 7-speed shifters, and all the rest of the drivetrain components and hubs were Dura Ace (not back for $75 smackers eh?). I'm building it up with the original Stronglight A9 headset, the Dura Ace crankset, the Campagnolo brake calipers, a set of well-used Chorus 9-speed brifters, a gently used Chorus rear derailleur, a 980 front derailleur (it's what I have on hand - :o), Mirage hub/cassette, laced to Super Champion tubular rims. The bar tape, and eventually (I hope) the saddle will both be brilliant yellow.

I expect to use this as my "go fast" bike, and maybe will work up the fitness and courage to try racing with it.

vpiuva - it will be stealth - except for having "TREK" cast in the bottom bracket.
