'85 Trek 400

I picked up my new '85 Trek 400 today. It was listed as a '90 but I knew that was not correct and had it pinned down to a couple of years. Now that it is with me, the serial number indicates it is a '85 with Sun Tour Cyclone 7000 rear derailer and a Shimano front one. It has Sun Tour Accushift shifters, Dia Compe 500 brakes and levers and Sakae CR cranks.

The guy I bought it from said it was his wife's and she never got into cycling like he has, so it was time to sell it. He said it only had about 100 miles on it. From the looks of it, I think he was telling the truth. The chain has no wear, brake pads look new, the wheels are true. The bike is dirty, but looks great.

It has been a while since I rode a steel frame bike. I filled up the tires, adjusted the brakes and derailers and took it for a small spin. It felt great. The bike fits me almost perfectly, I think I just need a bit longer stem. The ride was smooth and the pedaling was effortlessly.
