Have any of you used a bare metal Chromoly frame?

I picked up an old Trek that has a batter paint job. I was thinking about just stripping off all of the paint. What does a bare metal bike look like? In a dry climate like AZ, how rust prone would it be? Is there some type of clear coat that can be applied?

Thanks

Very popular in the BMX world, depending on how the frame was welded it will look like one of these:

Kinetic riders bike

or:

Chain and seatstays are darker due to the heat treating.

I worked with guy years ago that had his lugged steel frame clear coated. It looked pretty cool, with the contrast in color between the steel and the brass, but the clear had a tendency to chip a little easier as there was no primer or anything.
