Help on ID, old UniVega

Hi All,

Here are a set of pics for a UniVega I picked up for a commuter. I was wondering if you help me identify the type of Univega it is and it's approximate age.

I think I've included enough photos, if not, I can take more.

Thank you! :) John.

Hello John, whoa, you have the cool anodised everything Galli components!

If I remember correctly, they made stuff between the 1970s to late 1980s.

You need to shine that baby up!

Perhaps T-Mar can give you a hand with the dating on the bike?

Welcome to Bike Forums, too!

I can't say that I've ever seen one with Galli components. And I can't quite make out the serial number in the pic. However, if you can post the serial number, I should be able to tell you the year, provided it is a Miyata manufactured frame.

Galli did not offer derailleurs until 1976, so assuming they are original, it is no earlier than that. Univega typically used Japanese components but I suspect this is from that crossover period from Italvega to Univega, when the production was shifting from Italy to Japan. My guess is very late 1970s and a mid-range model on the basis of an integrated derailleur hanger, but no braze-ons and non-recessed brake bolts. Knowing the seat post diameter will also help in determing the level of the frame.
