My centurion find (what size is it ) and ser #
hello again,
I still have the centurion elite 12 in my honda.
a few things the wheels are off and I do not see any size info on it.
seeing im not sure how vintage bikes are measured im not sure what the modern metric size equvilant is.
this Centurion elite 12 I just found and posted below seems a tad bigger than the 50 I thought it was but not sure
1) serial Number is N3N5025 anything you can tell me would be great
2) the middle of bb to top of seat tube is 21 " 53.34 cm ?? based on the math??
3) TOP TUBE IS 22 " CC head - seat tube
color is metalic gray with a black head tube no stickers for type of tubing (tange #2??)
27 " wheels 6 speed casette
any info you can give me will be helpfull

You may have already seen this, but Sheldon has the '84 Centurion catalogs on his site. Yours may be an '83 based on the second digit in your serial being a 3 (T-Mar will know). Here's a link to the '84 Elite RS 12:

The frame was made around the end of July 1983. That puts it in that grey area where it could be either a 1983 or 1984 model. However, the color indicates a 1983 version. Tubing specs were Tange #2, butted CrMo for the main tubes and hi-tensile steel for the forks and stays. Third from top of line, $340 US original price.
There are several ways to measure frame size. Most use the seat tube length, but even then there are two common ways. One is the way you measured, which is called Center To Top (abbreviated CTT). The other is Center To Center (CTC). This method measures from the center of the bottom bracket to the center of the top tube. Usually this method produces a frame size that is about 1" (2.5 cm) shorter than the CTT method. For your bicycle, the CTC method would yield about 20" or 50.8cm. It would appear the seller used the CTC method in measuring the frame. Both methods are correct and in common useage. Most knowlegeable sellers will speicify which method they use to measure the frame. If they don't, the buyer should enquire. I've seen plenty of ads that simply equate tire size with frame size!
