Sprint == Hûret ?

Were the Sprint Made in France components on ~1970 Schwinns made by Hûret?

Is there a good site for them and the history?

Yes, made by Huret. No idea about a website.

I don't know if they made everything. "Sprint" was sort of an early form of "Schwinn Approved". It covered imported, but Schwinn branded things like saddles, generators, bottle cages, odometers, toe clips and straps, etc. Huret was the manufacturer of the derailleurs and cranks at least. This started in 1964 and went through 1966 (for the derailleurs anyway).

I think I found the serial number on the left dropout. It appears to have been filed or filled. Mark found it in a drainage ditch in 1971, and it looks like it was stolen before that. Still can't make out the number, but from the location it must be pre-1970.

Mark thinks it had fenders and an upright bar when he found it, and the big chain wheel has 52 teeth, which would make it a 68 or 69 Varsity Tourist. But it's got suicide brake levers so I doubt seriously it ever had an upright bar - back to Sport. No quick release hubs (though I've since added them from a later Continental). Does that imply 1968?

There is a clear "C79" stamped on the right dropout. Any idea what it means?
