Campy Bar End Shifters *Updated Photo*
Hey,
I bought these campy bar end shifters off craigslist the other day. I really have no use for them right now (might put them on my miyata touring bike in the future) but they looked neat so I picked them up. I payed $30, but I know absolutely nothing about campy parts so I don't know if that was appropriate price. They seem to be in perfect condition, and I'm just curious if anyone has an idea what their value is? Thanks! http://img105.mytextgraphics.com/pho...-47zzg0i56.jpg |
You got a good deal!
One of my bikes has Campy bar end shifters on it. All the others have SunTour bar end shifters, which work better than the Campys. The Campy bar end shifters are great if you get them adjusted properly, but that has never been too easy for me. |
I sold a similar pair a bit over a year ago on eBay for $55.00. The ones I sold had blue covers.
|
sell and getcha some suntours for a rider!

ebay away, the market will decide on the value, if there are at least two less experienced bidders, a good chance you will make a profit. |

actually the Human body gets about 1000 miles to the cost of one gallon. So unless all you eat is happy thoughts you should change your sig.
cheers. |
touche! i could spend my time refuting you but i will save some by simply stating (notice my brilliant use of alliteration) that you are a doofus.

these are simplex barcons with campy rubber covers..

I think these are younger, the expander is different, and the body that holds the lever has a different shape than the early most sought after examples.

how can you tell?

Older Campagnolo bar end shifters look different on the plug end, and have a wire wrapped around them laterally. Look at the pair in this auction.
And here are a pair of Simplex barcons in another auction. Price-wise, you are still ok. |

If they had the Simplex rubber covers, they'd be more valuable than Campy. They're big in Japan! |
Either way, they are probably well worth what you paid for them. As much as I like my SunTour ratchet barcons, I would like to get a pair of period- and continent-correct older Campagnolo (first choice) or Simplex barcons.

i just asked about a mystery simplex shifter in another thread..
the design and construction is different, especially the expander & conical wedge campy shifters are always marked on the shift lever itself (under the rubber) some models (dates ?) of the simplex shifters are entirely unmarked

Drop the shifters in a pot of boiling water for a few minutes and the covers will slide right off.

It is possible that Simplex made a bar end w/o engraving. But I've seen Huret bar ends and I think that's what these are. |
