Peugeot Super Competition
What type of frame did the Peugeot Super Competition (ca. 1980) have? I ride a Peugeot Competition with a Reynolds 531 mainframe and was curious as to the differences between these two models.

PR-10/PKN-10E/Competition: double-butted Reynolds 531 main triangle; seamed carbon steel forks and stays
PX-10/Super Competition: seamless Reynolds 531 forks and stays, same main triangle as PKN-10
Perhaps you can, but I cannot feel any significant difference, and the PKN-10's weight penalty is less than 200 gm.
Mixed tubeset frames such as the Bianchi Campione d'Italia and the PKN-10 are great bargains, because many collectors pass on them in favor of their thoroughbred cousins.

I'm not sure what year my Super Competition is and I do not have pictures of it. The frame is made of Reynolds 531, but I am not sure about the material of the chain and seat stays. The fork is half chrome with a chrome crown, but the chain stays and seat stays are not chrome at all. With a 700cx23 set up, most types of rear tire come within about 1.25" of the seat tube, and most types of rear tire come within about 1.5" of the down tube. There is about a .5" of clearance between the fork and the bottom of the steerer tube. The paint job is a really beautiful bluish green, which in my case was unfortunately nicked up quite a bit by the former owner, because he was a frequent rider, too. He removed all the original parts because they were "out of date" and in poor condition, so when I got it I took everything off, repacked all the bearings, put on drop bars and Sugino RD crank set and currently ride it as my "nice weather" fixed gear bike.

Super Competion is just the newer name for the PX10. See John's post above. He's absolutely correct. I know he hopes you didn't cut the derailer hanger off.

That's actually really good to know. I don't know a whole lot about Peugeots, but they are discussed here a lot so it's nice to be able to read about them.
And no, I would never do that to a nice older bike. The downtube braze-ons, derailleur hanger, and cable guides are all intact. Someday I could perhaps convert it. I try to treat it well, but it is just such a nice ride that I feel kind of guilty commuting on it every day....
