Only pictures i've got. Owner says he's been offered $1000 for it (not sure if i'd offer $100).

I'm by no means an expert, but judging by the rust, the foam grips, and the stem shifters, it just screams poorly-cared -for, average 80's road bike. The lug work is nice, but I agree that I'm not sure I'd pay $100.

(Now that I've said that, watch it turn out to be something uber-rare and valuable, and I look foolish...)

I can't help with the identity, but anytime a seller gives me a line like that I tell them they should have sold it when they had the chance, then walk away and don't look back.

I think the Canadian builder Mariposa used a butterfly decal did they not? But for something liek that with all the rust/stem shifters and all I can't imagine anyone in their right mind offering a grand...

Let's not forget about the Campy NR brakeset (I think...) and what looks suspiciously like a Campy crank, not to mention the pretty lugwork. And... stem shifters? But it is pretty beat - I'd seriously doubt he's been offered $1k.

That chain needs a little more rust. Looks like it would be too smooth and shiney as is.

Looks like someone converted it to a "comfort" road bike a while back. But not very well.

aren't cinelli's the only old bike worth a g? except that tomac mtb. stem shifters, foam drips, is that a 600 front hub, front reflector? I'm saying that guy is a tweaker who lifted gramps old road bike out of his garage and is looking to cash in, the sad part is that if he liver in california and it was a fixed gear he'd already have his money. where can I buy those campy stickers? I have a 72 raleigh record they would look sweet on:D

Absolutely not! All one needs to think about is the beautiful Hetchings that Cardiac Kid bought a while back for about $700. I rest my case!

Excellent point!

So, the answer is 'NO'.

Should be Hetchins. My Gosh, what am I doing up so early? And where's my coffee?

I was going to ask you both those questions, then figured that everyone out there is probably like me and Pastor Bob--hard at work ;) .

what a sad case, looks like a once noble Campy-equipt lightweight with nice lugwork that got a load of crappy bike-boom junk stuck on it and then left to rust. I'm sure it's worth stripping, throw away the stem shifters and claw RD and then give it a thorough de-rusting and waxing. Mariposa? Should never have been allowed to suffer this abuse, hope you can get the seatpost out!:o

This is prime example of what happens when 2 fools cross. Who was stupider, the person who offered $1000 or the person who turned it down.
This would appear to be a pretty good project bike if you could get it for about $50. After a couple of months of work and several hundred dollars, you could have a pretty nice bike.
