Schwinn Sprint?????

I keep thimking I will see one of these on e-bay, but have not. I think it was called the Sprint. It had a curved seat tube for clearance of the rear wheel, and to make shorter chainstays. I think they were made in the late 70's? Anybody have one or know what I'm talking about?

Sure. Mine's a '74. Not all that uncommon.

Thats it. Is that the original crank? Or did it come with a one piece Ashtabula?

Mine is all original besides the saddle and bag.

Ooh, nice '74s.

Are they electro-forged or fillet brazed?

The original had been replaced when I bought it. It's a Sugino Super Maxy.

That yellow is sweet, roughrider!

The mid-seventies Sprints have electroforged frames using 18 ga. 1010 plain carbon steel. These bikes weighed 36-37 pounds.

Actually, the chainstays aren't any shorter, there wouldn't be enough room for the wheel. But the overall wheel base is tighter. There are also two different curved sprint frames. The 75 is one inch shorter across the top tube than the 74 and the ride is noticeably different. For my height, the 75 feels more "in the pocket" but it's also a bit wilder ride.

They show up on ebay every once in a while (I've bought two of them), but the really rare bike is the curved tube Paramount. I've only seen one on ebay in the past few years and unfortunately it was not my size. If anyone sees a 22" curved Paramount frame for sale, give me a hollar.

Also looking for a 75 chestnut Sprint (the brownish burgundy color).

I had a '75 in the light blue. It was a neat bike and handled totally different from the Varsi/nentals. Which was why I bought it. I also had a Schwinn Heavy Duty at the time. Really miss my old Schwinns.:(
