Pinarello help needed

My first real bike an '87 Pinarello Montello just came back into my possession after 13 years being leased to a friend.:D Now I want to restore it and need to find a seatpost binder bolt.
The original apparently broke and my friend used one that is not only too long but says SIMPLEX on it.:(
Any sources where I can find an original with PINARELLO on it as well as new decals will be much appreciated.
Thanks, Don.

Here is a Campy bolt:

You can also get a Sugino binder bolt for a fraction of that. eBay is your source for decals.

I don't believe you will find a binder bolt that says Pinarello.

Likewise, I've never seen a Pinarello enscripted seatpost binder bolt- for an italian bike, the de rigueur classic binder bolts used thruout the 80's would have been Campagnolo, Cinelli or if you were a weight weenie, an aluminum O.M.A.S.

I have seen advertisements on eBay for Pinarello-marked seatpost bolts; search for panto* under cycling. sometimes one turns up. I haven't ever actually looked at what they are selling, though...a Campy would be more than appropriate for a Montello, though.

Tha Campy bolts are commonly available at most LBS's.

I saw the Campy one on loose screws and also found one on E-bay but pictures look different than mine.
Left side of clamp is tapped and I'm thinking just remove the other half and it should work but wanted to see if anyone here has had experience with this particular problem.
Campy would be my first choice after Pinarello.
Thanks for the help.

well, dayam. 300107318818 is one of these on eBay. Not cheap (kind of like, ah, insanely priced, but wadda I know?)

How can you tell from the picture?

luker 10-18-07 09:23 PM

well, i got this really cool USB scanning electron microscope, that unmixes the pixels at the atomic level, so I can extract, using fractal algorithms, information that is hidden to the nekked eye...

actually, I can't, but I've traded with the seller before and he seems to know wut fer...so I'm guessing that it probably actually sez pinarello. Just a guess, but unless you light ceegars with bennies, the thing's too much money, so I'll never know for sure....

well, I did the right thing and asked him...

luker 10-19-07 01:20 PM

yep. embossed pinarello.

jgarcia186 10-19-07 01:30 PM

on a side note, what was the seatpost size for the early 80's Treviso?

dvs cycles 10-19-07 02:57 PM

Don't know about the Treviso but my Montello is 27.2. 1987 so I bet they were all the same?

The guy selling this is a major JERK in my opinion.
The picture is too small to see if anything might justify $65 for a bolt. Would have to be perfect for me to spend that.
After trying to get better shots from him today he gets irate and bans me from buying his bolt while insulting me both through e-bay message and to my e-mail address.
All I can say is don't even give Vicious Cycles a second look. Should change his name from Bikebassnut to just NUT!

Too bad about the vendor...he does seem to be wound a little tight. But, butthead or no, that bolt is priced about 4-5 times more than its worth. The basic rule of eBay is "there'll be another..."

oh, and yeah...I have yet to see a vintage Pinarello that isn't 27.2, ignoring the Alans with the Pinarello stickers.

Yeah me too. The friend I sold it to and bought it back from apparently did not know that.
As I cleaned everything up the seat clamp was not willing to accept the 27.2 post so I had to spread it back out.
He must have used the wrong size post which put the bolt in a bind and broke and is why I need to find another.
The campy one everyone sells is 2 mm shy on length.
Anyone sees the right one give me a shout please.
Thanks, Don.

Still fuming about this guy. Went and looked at ALL his feedback. Several negatives all reflecting the same
A-hole attitude I got from him. Seemed trivial since it was diluted by positives but now I know.
Wish I could post feedback but since I didn't buy and he has barred me ..........?

+100 on bikebassnut being a jerk.

I made an offer on a "Buy it now or make an offer" item. It seems the offer wasn't inflated enough for his royal a** and he sent me a nasty email about "wasting his time." The way I figure it he's bitter and frustrated because he wants to be a jazz musician, but lacks talent....

Almost exactly what he said to me along with expletives. I think the picture of him on his website says it all.
