Univega Nuovotech 450, Pecking Order?
I just found this 54cm, Univega Nuovotech 450 at a Garage Sale. The paint is in excellent shape with only a dozen scratches. Not bad for a 1988 model bike. The bike had a $10 price tag on it and considering I was the first of the usual bike vultures to find this house, I grabbed it, knowing the chainrings were missing. After paying the guy he hands me a bag, "you'll need this". Yup, it had the chainrings, pedals, BB nuts and caps. I think he tried to clean the chain, the hard way and got lost. Best of all, it's my size! (Ideally I ride 52-54cm.)
I have one question, does anyone know the pecking order of Univega at that time? The bike has full Exage Sport Grouppo and its a index 12 speed. The frame is one of those aluminum bonded to steel frames. The rims are Weinmann 700C. I have no idea where this bike fits in the Univega line-up but would really like to know. If this was a Nishiki, it would have been in the top third of the line-up, but I just don't know about Univega.

The 1988 NouvoTech 450 sold for $420 US. I 'm not sure of the exact location in the range, but other bicycles with Exage Sport and similar prices were the Centurion LeMans and Bianchi Sport. Nishiki's Exage Sport bicycle seems to have been the bargain of the lot. It was the $350 Olympic. All things considered, for the era, the NuovoTech 450 would have been considered a low mid-range model.
