Thanks very much for the anti-squeak recommendations, I'll try them out tonight. The saddle is brand new. I think the other problem was that I had the seat post positioned a little too high and was consequently somewhat "rocking" on the saddle when pedeling. I've lowered it and I'll apply the grease and put the rubber shim under the rear bracket as you showed on the illustration.

Lowering it may be all you have to do. I hadn't figured that you may have had it too high, but that would contribute to squeaking at the spring nuts. B67's work best when they are a tad lower than you might set a road saddle - maybe a centimeter lower. This gives a little more room for your thigh at the back, where it meets the flair. Also, before you grease, tighten the nuts a little. You'll be surprised at how loose they are. Not too tight, just re-snug them with a 13mm wrench. And remember to just squeeze the skirts together to test for the leather-on-steel rubbing before you bother with the rubber gaskets.

I've never had a problem either, til I got that new honey 17 in the pic. I swear it sounded like one of those tiny green tree frogs around here. My experience with sprung Brooks has been with solving others' problems. My two 67's haven't made a sound yet.

My LBS does not carry Brooks, this is the best price I found:

Talked to the owner on the phone and he seemed very nice and knowledgeable. He suggested the B-67 based on my situation. I also needed a B-17 for a bike I picked up this summer.

IBikedoYou2
B-67 $74.95
B-17 $59.95
Ship Free
Total $134.90

WallBike
B-67 $104.00
B-17 $82.00
Ship $7.00
Total $193.00

I've heard nothing but good things about WallBike and if it were my first Brooks I would pay the extra for the insurance of the return policy. However, I'm confident I'll be happy with the B-67.

Ordered last Friday, shipped on Monday.

Arrived today and both saddles look great.

You got a very good price for the Brooks. They recently jumped in price because Brooks changed distributers in the US and because of the current dollar/pound value. They probably still had some in stock merchandise that they had gotten at the lower price. Last month, I quickly bought another one from Rivendell because they were still at the old price of $70. Their price has gone up to $95 now also. Same with Harris Cyclery.

As for my squeaking honey B67, after I lowered the saddle most of the squeak went away, and it was a lot easier to pedal the bike too :o. There still is a little bit of a squeak and, if I have some time this weekend, I'll try the suggestions of tightening the bolts and putting in a rubber shim. Thanks.

Maureen
