Another Sekine thread......
 

I brought home this $20 Sekine last night and although it needs tires it seems to be all original.
The question I have though is head badges. Is this a newer version or a later one.
Did they use both head badges at the same time?

Green bike appears to be a much earlier Sekine than your new red one. Yours appears to be an early to mid 80's example. Either way, both badges are very cool looking.

The red one is a Medialle. Its identical to mine. I think Tmar said its a 75. Mine has Shimano 500 group. Quality paint job on those bikes. It rides so smooth. Mine has Bluemell fenders, great winter bike. Take care.

It's Shimano, I believe a variant on the inexpensive Eagle. They did those back at the height of the drillium craze. Didn't really lighten the derailleur much, as the mechanism is steel, but it look cool. I'd forgotten about them over all these years.

The derailleur on your green one sure looks cool!

Do your Sekine frame lugs look like these? Can you post a close up? I'm trying to figure out whether my 1972 International Bicycle Corp 10-speed is a Sekine frame. Thanks.

Doesnt resemble mine the least bit, mine actually has pretty fancy looking lugs (with the exception of the bottom of the seat tube lug which is just flat cut).

I found an old crappy bridgestone in the trash that had lug work kinda like that however.. only going by memory though, bike aint around anymore to check.

The seller thought it was from the mid eighties but it looks more like a mid seventies bike.
The RD on the green bike is a Shimano, but I do not know the model.
The lugs on these Sekine's do not look like the ones you posted MLyon18.

Yes, in my limited knowledge Sekine would use both head badges in the same year, used to denote the lower end and higher end brands. Although the red Sekine would be a newer model than your green one (and I am still green with envy with that find) and possibly an 80's model since it has the stem shifters rather than on the down tube.
The rhinestone HB would be for the low to mid range bikes and the medialle HB for the higher end bikes.

The OP's red bicycle is definitely the more modern of the two. The green bicycle is an SHB or SHC, circa 1973-1975.

On the basis of what appears to be a Selecta/Integer crankset, the red bicycle would appear to be an RM30. The picture is not good enough to identify the rear derailleur, but I suspect it may be an Altus. Both would put the bicycle no older than 1978. It could be as modern as the mid-1980s, but I suspect it is no older than 1983.

The headbadge should not be used determine the level of the model. I've seen the bottom of the line lighweight with the Medialle headbadge.

Crappy ol' Bridgestone eh? LOL .. well if my IBC is indeed a Bridgestone, which it may be via C. Itoh even, it's plenty fine enough for my miles.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I was wondering if anyone knew what the correct pronunciation of Sekine is? I figure "se-kine" as it would seem, but who knows, maybe its "seakin" or "saykine" or what?

I've heard it is pronounced it Seh-kee-nee.

That is the only way I've ever heard it pronounced.
