great service at George Garners.

Had a broken spoke on the rear wheel of my Schwinn Twinn tandem. Being on the drive side meant the freewheel had to come off in order to put in a new spoke. Took the wheel over to George Garner Schwinn in Northbrook IL. They have been a long time supporter of racing at the Northbrook Velodrome. Went in asked if they could remove the freewheel and match up a spoke for replacement. The Mechanic took the wheel, removed the freewheel, and found a spoke. He rang me up, $1.07. I asked about the freewheel removal and he said it only took a second, so no charge. Nice bunch of guys and a really clean, neat store. I know where I'll be going when its time for a new bike, or any other repairs. Its why places like this have been around for ever, they treat you right.

I love hearing stories like that! Most of my LBS experiences here have been so-so.

Having grown up in Chicago, that place has represented quality in bikes since I was little, notwithstanding high-end import shops like the old Turin Bicycle Co-op formerly of Old Town! I was in there a few summers ago, and it is still a super store.
