Pogliaghi (again)

At the request of another member I'm posting a few pics
(both before and after) of my Pogliaghi Pista.
A few things I know about the bike.
1) Serial number is 13148, and is estimated late 1983 early 1984.
The bike was originally purchased by Eddie Salas, an Olympic rider
from Australia (road events I believe), and delivered to him in 1984
2) The bike was delivered in Red, as shown in the "after" pictures.
3) At some point in time the bike was stripped and repainted
in a Monkey Vomit Green to Yellow Fade (as I received it).
4) Reproduction Decals were purchased from Velographics (and no I'm not going there)
5) Respray was done by David Cheakas at Southwest Frameworks Dallas, Tx.
http://www.southwestframeworks.com/
6) The bike is a work in progress. Currently it rides Campy Record low flange hubs laced to
Mavic Aspin rims 36 hole 3x. I have Fiamme Red label rims which I'm going to relace over
the winter. Crankset is a Sugio Super Mighty (I think) Pista 151 BCD with 1/8 inch chainrings.
I plan to replace that with Campy Super Record Pista 144 BCD 1/8 if I win the lottery.
Stem is a Cinelli 1a -17degree, handle bars are Cinelli Pista alloy bars. Again if I win the
lottery I'll replace those with steel bars.

This bike pretty much sums up my feelings on restoration, especially given
the state the frame was in when I bought it.
I've always lusted after a Pog and feel honored to be a steward of this bike and
feel even luckier that I have a velodrome about 5 miles from my house where I
can take the bike and only dream of riding to the frames potential (i.e. I'm slow).
And for anyone who cares it's pronounced Po lee ah ghee (sorry bout the bad phonetics)

Marty,

I think you should be nominated for sainthood. Just lovely.

Is it normal for the serial number to be coloured differently?

This is one of my favorite rides of any of the forum members, and probably my favorite pista ever. Although I have looked at it many times I enjoy looking again.

I've seen this before when viewing some of the Pogs over at Classic Rendezvous,
I'm not sure if this was standard on later pogliaghis (late 70s early 80s) or an option,
David and I thought it would look good offsetting the red of the frame.

It does indeed look good, and it made me look twice!

what kind of rims are you rolling on?

lotek 11-05-07 07:34 PM

Mavic Aspin (which were originally for a trek 770 I've never gotten around to building).
as I mentioned I'm going to replace those with Fiamme Reds over the winter.

Marty,

That is a sharp Pog! My Pog still has the original paint and it does have the serial number and the PSM on the top head lug highlighted in yellow (along with the Pogliaghi script on the seatstay caps). It contrasts nicely with the purple paint and yellow in the decals.

Keep the faith.

my my.

speaking of reposted pogliaghis, here's mine again:

I'm pretty sure the stem isn't a Cinelli :)

It's not quite done, but it's always the pricey little details that slow things down. I'll be picking up a pair of campy wheels (28h high flange to polished Nisi rims). In my dreams, Saint UPS leaves a buffalo Unicanitor, a 27.2 2 bolt post, and pair of Binda extras under the tree.

Marty, your Pog. is always worth looking at. So tastefully done-up. Thankyou.
