Oh no! Why do I do this?!?!?!?

I saw this rickshaw pop up on Craigs for $200 so I bought it! I always thought they were neat. Maybe I'll use it as a cab when the fair is going in town and make a few bucks. I already have so many bikes that the car is consigned to the driveway. Now I'll have to take a few inside! What do ya think?

roseskunk 11-08-07 07:52 PM

ha-ha that thing is cool! i'm sure glad you bought it though instead of me!

yellowcanoe1 11-08-07 07:53 PM

Is that a Colnago or a Cervelo? Didn't I see Lance on one of those at the TdF? :D

amnomad 11-08-07 08:11 PM

Totally cool! I would have definitely bought it, I've seen pedicabs on CL here for really high prices. Good luck with your second job:D

Bikedued 11-08-07 08:15 PM

Move to the French Quarter, you could make $50-$100 an hour easily. For $200, that is cheap. People sell them on Houston CL from time to time, and ask $1000.,,,,BD

I'm picturing you truckin' on up the South Hill with that....but I like the doin' the Puyallup thing too! Up next, the Little Puyallup (April 17 through April 20).

If Puyallup has a Fourth of July parade, you just bought yourself a once-a-year job for life. The parade grand marshal has something to look forward to now!

It looks kinda like the one van damme rode in kickboxer.. at least the frame was like that from I remember, and it had that truss fork dealy

I have been watching on Ebay for them. For newer ones, there are some cheap ones out there, but otherwise, they go for a thousand dollars and up- mainly up.

Prior to trying to make money with it, check into how the business is regulated- different places seem to be clamping down on their usage. You may need a license or insurance, or have places you just flat can't use it.

caterham 11-09-07 12:06 AM

bet you'll be a big hit cruising the Meridian loop on friday nites.
south hill? not so much.

i love it.

best,
k

It's very cool looking and would be terrific in our Mardi Gras or St. Patrick's day parades. Besides, if they really go for $1000 on ebay, consider it an investment. If you do ride it in a parade, be sure to post the pics. :)

I don't think I am going to make it up even the slightest incline with this beast! Especially South Hill. The thing wieghs a ton and it's a single speed. The gearing (I haven't counted yet) looks like 50-20 or so. I think if I get it cleaned up and working tip top I'll give Victorian Country Christmas and the Santa Parade a shot.

I am going to check into all this stuff ASAP. Hopefully I can get some kind of temporary license and insurance because I don't think there is enough of a market to go full time around here.

I think it would be a big hit at the Santa Parade :D .

Shoot, we need to get up a BF Santa/Christmas team--me, you, stringbreaker, caterham, and a whole bunch of other south enders :p .

Sounds like fun! We just can't have a Santa. There is only one afterall! I might even be able to get us in the parade for free! I know people........I have been doing the parade every year for the last 5 years. I usually dress up as an elf and carry a banner for my work or hand out candy. I even have some vintage elf shoes (probably Shriners) with curly toes!

caloso 11-09-07 04:09 PM

It's awesome.

StephenH 11-09-07 04:25 PM

Here's a pedicab that appeared briefly on Ebay. It had a number of bids, was up over $1,000 when the listing disappeared- not sure what happened to it:

Normally, these things are listed as "pickup only", not shipped. That means if you're in an area where they're using them, there's a demand and prices should be good. Otherwise, there's no telling. Similar with some other oddball cycling stuff- trikes and stuff.

In the Unility Forum, I had a post a while back called "Pedicabs Etc" with a link to a list of manufacturers- you can peruse them and get ideas of typical prices new.

You know, that would be fun!

Perhaps we need a thread in the PNW regional forum about that--when would we need to scrape the folks up for that?

You might be able to flip it to bigbossman. He's looking for a new career and he certainly looks capable of pulling a few Jenny Craig drop outs up a 12% grade.

mastershake916 11-09-07 11:06 PM

I was gonna suggest trying this around the holidays, might get some good tips on new year's eve.

I had an interview today. It didn't go too well...... the b@stards offered me the job, so it looks like I'll be forced out of my oh-so-short retirement. AND, I have another interview on Monday. The Chief Whip says I gotta be gainfully employed, so that's that.

To borrow the words of Gene Wilder in The Producers, "No way out...no way out...no way out..." :(

Besides, I don't do Jenny Craig - I'm a Curves kinda guy. :D

Well, there goes that pig trip. Nice while it lasted though.

I think it would have to be pretty soon. The spots fill up quick. I'll do some checking around town. It would be really cool to try and get tons of people together for this. Maybe the Tacoma Wheelmens Club? Or the people from the Northwest Rails to Trails Coalition? It could be a great non intrusive ( non critical mass) way to get some advocasy and publicity! Ah..the wheels are turnin' now! I better get to checking!

Thanks!
Kelly D.
