Works good, like Robbi said it ratchets. The hi & low stops are set and three clicks works every time, sometimes 1 to trim. The rings & crank are 600 Arabesque (I had them). The rear is a Sacs 8 sp freewheel so I could keep my hi-flange Tippos. I'm having a bit of trouble getting it just right.
Got a few from when I was building it.
I'm pretty sure the frame is a early 80s Fiorelli built Milano Sanremo, The fork is newer, 90s from Pelizzoli

Trek
Here's my humble offering - an '84 Trek with 8sp Ergos. I got the bike with a bizarre mixture of components, and have now swapped out most for an equally bizarre mix from various donor bikes. My first Ergos, and I think I like them a lot. The cassette is Shimano 7sp, which indexes perfectly with the Campy RD. I'm building an 8sp Campy wheelset that I will also be able to swap in.

it was raining cats and dogs here in Brooklyn.... so I put on fenders. I ended up losing my Garmin Cadence/speed censor [zip ties weren't on tight and it slipped outward] I cranked right through that motherF'er breaking into pieces onto the wet pavement. I guess I'm lucky it didn't go into the spokes. I did manage to snap some decent pics of the bike after the ride though.
sheldon fender nuts for the win! sheldon fender nuts are brake nuts that extend outward and have a 5mm thread inside that you can put the fender bolt into - so you can quickly/easily put on fenders.
fenders may seem dorky, but damn they keep the drivetrain/frame clean. I was soaked through and through regardless, but at least the bike was spic and span after the ride.

runningDoc-- that thing looks stunning as ever, fenders or no!
in the spirit of fall, fenders, and five-thirty-one:
(excuse the crummy phone pic)
my new baby, 1983 trek 600 frameset build w/ 10speed veloce. love at first ride. sad to say this will signal my departure from the fraternal order of centurion ironman, simply not enough storage space living in the city. big thanks to everyone on this thread and c&v-- a few years ago i wouldn't have even wanted to do a build like this, silly me.

I'm actually looking to De-STI one of my bikes, so if anyone wants to trade me their tricolor 8speed levers and DT shifters for a pair of tricolor STIs, I'd be a very happy camper.
See my post in the C&V for trade thread for the details.

my name is Jim
Masi 3V
I decided to build myself a bike using a vintage frame and some vintage components but having a modern drivetrain. I chose my Masi 3V as the base. Here is the result:
This is a 1984 Italian Masi 3V frame. I put an FSA Gossamer triple crank with Shimano Ultegra BB on the bike along with a Shimano 105 drivetrain and brakes. Fulcrum hubs laced to Mavic CXP22 rims and Michelin Erilium 2 tires. A Campy Super Record seat post, 3ttt stem pantographed "Alberto Masi" and Selle San Marco seat and bar tape complete the build. This bike used to look like this before the rebuild, built up with period correct components:
