Really nice Venturi! Someone at Shimano should be getting a bonus for making their shifters and cranks attractive again! I couldn't even consider a modern Shimano group on my build three years ago but if I was going for a retro-roadie build with new parts now I'd definitely consider it.

I had never heard of this frame company before buying, but the tubing appears to be EL OS or neuron based on my calculations. The weight of the frame alone was 1830 grams which is just over what Columbus specs for each tubeset. I am leaning towards EL OS because the original fork had unicrown blades which is what was specd for Columbus EL OS. Overall the bike rides great and is a blast. The saddle may not stay, was mostly curious about it and havent put many miles on it yet.

Nothing looks better to me than an old frame with new parts.

Looks good! Tight rear gearing.
Care to expand on the saddle? Type and is it worthy?

The saddle is a Tioga Spyder Twin Tail. It is surprisingly comfortable for what it is and it is super light. My only qualm with it so far is that the saddle rails seem to be placed to far forward. As it is now the saddle is placed all the way back on the rails and I still wanna move it forward a bit. Other than that it is perfectly comfortable and light saddle. Its aesthetics may not be for everyone either.

Been following this for a while, and this winter is my turn...... I have a 92 Miyata 914 with down tube shifters at the moment. I will be upgrading to STI 105 to match the rest of the bike. Doing a full teardown and build up. I purchased this new in the spring of 92, and have never owned any other road bike. I love the way the frame rides, and it's quick response. I will post some picures when done.

World is a small place
This is how it looked like before it want over the pond to jpsawyer!

So the frame weights 1830g? Awesome, I never took the fork apart, it was 2599g frame+fork+headset, so I guess you save quite a bit with a carbon fork! Also, it takes 27.2 seatposts so it's easy to get "weightweenie" on this one

Enjoy the bicycle, I have an alu+carbon bike and it's not quite the same as the old Rampon.

As it sits now the bike weighs in at 19.5 lbs. which is pretty good considering it has a pretty heavy wheelset.

Thought I would share my semi-retro roadie. I just built it up the other day with some spare 9-speed parts. Its late 90's Tourmalet, reynolds 525. I think of it as a little retro because of the quill stem and the down tube bosses. The frame was snatched up off craigslist...had some abused RSX parts on it. The frame itself was pretty worked. Couple dings on the top tube, paint chips and scratches galore, dull paint, headset all dry and loose, bent seat stay. I bent the stay back, polished out the paint, and generally brought it back up to good function and then threw on some parts that are probably too good for it! Either way I am sooooo surprised with how much I like to ride it.

I am still wondering about the frame alignment factor after you've spread the rear triangle to accommodate the greater wheel spacing for 8, 9, or 10 speeds? Are these frames still tracking correctly? Just wondering...
As close as I get to modern is Campagnolo's index shifting 7 speed on my Della Santa.

I rebuilding a yellow Tourmalet from the same year. The paint is pealing right off though just under the top tube near the seat tube.

Your looks pretty great to me. How big of tires do you have on there? It looks like it could easily take 28's and maybe up to 32c tires.

Yep, they track just fine if you squeeze the wheel in. Cold setting with the right tools is of course preferable, especially with the tolerances needed for indexed shifting.

Thanks! I wish I had before photos that show the transformation. I cleaned it/polished it with an auto body rubbing compound and then waxed it.

Yeah you might be able to get away with 28s. I have a hard time judging because I have limited experience with fatter tires. In the photos I'm rocking 23s, but am going to throw on some 25s soon.

Isn't that a modern bike with modern components?

I guess I didnt think to look. I dont know the history on the bike, but a quick google search states the bike was made from 1996-2006? So, it could potentially be over 19 years old, or as young as 9. Still a slick bike, although it might not apply to this forum because it already came with brifters.
