The paint looks amazing the way it is. I am glad you gave it some time to grow on you. That is awesome you are under 20 lbs. My Cannondale is 20.6 lbs (almost there) . But I am changing the forks later this week to some carbon ones. I am hoping that will make the difference, but its a stretch

I guess I didnt think to look. I dont know the history on the bike, but a quick google search states the bike was made from 1996-2006? So, it could potentially be over 19 years old, or as young as 9. Still a slick bike, although it might not apply to this forum because it already came with brifters.

I agree i wouldnt class it as vintage, but i think its still a retro classic.
I reckon anybike that can still utilise a 1" threaded fork/quill system and down tube shifters belongs.
its a pretty fine line though, as i think the next CAAD up has the non-removable gear cable stops and you cant use down tube shifters, thats what i would classify as old but modern.
PS, when i say cant i mean not designed for it, i know you can buy after market clamps to use DT shifters but thats not the point.

First frame of this or similar vintage that I've seen setup with electronic shifting, though someone else please correct me if there's another one in this thread... Bravo, back to the future!

Its not as retro or old school as pre-sti bikes getting a STI makeover, but putting Di2, deep dish carbon wheels, and a true threadless headset/fork is just as dynamic a change. Its the next logical progression of putting new stuff on older bikes.

Well, I think it's a cool bike and enough old to show it here. You need to start preserving early before it can become a real vintage gem
@gt Euneuch: Why the change? To be honest, in terms of looks, I like your old setup better.
Some upgrades: new wheels, from triple to double, new saddle and white tap and some Dutch sunny but cold winter weather:

Many of the retro/STI/Ergo upgrades are easily done, plug 'n' play.
Many are not, and few of us here have mentioned the PITA it can be, which is half the fun (if it works).

As far as I'm concerned, putting Di2 and deep-section carbon wheels on a nearly 20 year old 'Dale are bike-geek hot-rodder bona fides enough to get you into 'retro-roadie' hall of fame, regardless of technicalities! Ha.

Thanks! This *might* be my favorite bike because of how versatile it is. I will definitely agree with you though, polished post, black modern saddle, black bar tape, and remove the stickers from the wheels and it would be the business. Just made do with what I had!

Here is my 85 Cannondale updated to 9 speed. I have changed everything but the frame, and she weighs in at 20.1 lbs.

4 newcomers, all posting hot-rodded "classics" with modern stuff.
This is a bad-ass thread to start in, and they all pretty much nailed it on the first go. There's a future for the world, after all.
Welcome to the forum, folks.

Not to be critical, you should have the Brooks Swallow tilted upwards for more comfort, in it's present position. too much weight on the arms could discourage riding the bike. Hope she enjoys the bike and welcome to Bikeforums!
