The Photo(s) Most Wanted Thread
In the process of collecting information and photos for Velobase it is amazing how some parts from a particular group or brand are everywhere. Where other parts, are virtually unmentioned anywhere on the web. Which of course is part of the reason I started the Velobase project to begin with. To have a place to go find information on both the unique and rare, but also the common, vintage cycling parts.
I've started this thread as a place to keep a list of the parts I'm currently "most" interested in getting photos and information on. This by no means is a complete list of what I'm in need of for the site. And everyone is always welcome to add any and all information they care to add to the project at anytime.
So, currently, I'm focusing mostly on Shimano parts. Mainly because I have a couple early 80's catalogs to base my work off of. However the catalog scan images are less than clear in many cases and thus the desire for actual photos of some of these parts.
November Most Wanted List:
1) General and Historical Information about many of the brands represented on VeloBase.com. Browse the Brand Directory to see what brands we have in the system and if you know any information about them, feel free to add it by using the Edit button. (Ok, they're not photos, but it is information that I'm looking to add!)
2) Vintage Cassettes from brands such as Shimano, SunTour, Camapgnolo and anyone else who got on the freehub band wagon in the 80's.
3) Tires. Yes, this is a tall order as tires are certainly consumables and not many old tires around, but I would like to increase the number in the database.
4) Handlebars. Another area that is lacking in number on the site. Handlebars can be difficult to photograph, but give it a try if you would. My thanks in advance.
October Most Wanted List:
1) Shimano FC-A105 crankset. Shimano 105 Golden Arrow group, non-fluted version. (I have the fluted A105 and the non-fluted A125 G.Arrow cranks now)
2) Shimano Dura-Ace EX (7200) group. Specifically stem & seat post.
3) Shimano Deore Touring group (specifically first gen derailleurs, brakes, etc. I've got good photos of pedals and crank now (thanks!)

Sorry Jon but none of my bikes have Shimano on them.
I do have 2 or 3 shimano brake shoes (with pads) that you can have,
and maybe 2 shimano cable adjusters. . . .

First-gen Dura-Ace crankset, I think. I don't believe I posted it, for I'm not familiar with it. Neal Lerner now has it:
Let me know if you have any info for it, and I'll post it up for you, Jon.
P.S.: Haven't forgot about the Raleigh articles. Been writing non-stop for university studies - I try to stay away from writing more then I have to now.

cudak888 - school comes first! We've got the holidays coming up so hopefully that will provide a bit more time. Thanks for the good photo of the first-gen Dura-Ace crank. I've got a few photos of that one already, but I think that is a better photo than what's on the site now.

Cuda, i can take some pics of a shimano 300ex exage group on my Giant if that could be helpful. It is complete with Bio-pace chain rings. I will get it cleaned up some after work and try to take a few. Let me know how you want me to send you the pics if you are interested.
edit: I belive i also have a red band Bendix hub that is taken apart(getting cleand up), i can take some pics of the internals before i put it back together, if you want anything like that for the site.

Do you want me to shoot either a Titlist or a 600 front derailleur? I believe the former is ca. 1970, the latter, ca. 1980.

Here's the link to the Shimano Brand page on VeloBase.com, from there you can browse to see what I currently have (good) photos of and what I don't have at all. Velobase.com: Shimano
caterham: great shots. Great to see some of the more rare bits of the DuraAce EX group still hanging on a frame. Still have that bike?
brew: I don't have any 300ex stuff yet at all so anything you can provide would be great.
John E: I think I've got the ~80 600 part. Titlist is currently not there.
btw: if anyone has an account over on VeloBase (or wants to create one) you can upload and add photos your self too.

the pics were taken just this past spring and the bike is still ridden regularly. It's a late 1981 Bertin C70 built with Reynolds 531 Superlegger tubing and belongs to my wife, who bought it new whilst she was working for the North American Andre Bertin distributor, Inertia Inc.
I've maintained it closely to how she had it set up when we first met and on our first date(our second was a 115 mile ride over the North Cascades highway, btw-she did very well, so I married her).
fyi, Cycles Andre Bertin was the French distributor for Shimano and this bike represented their flagship model of the time and was one of , if not the, very first european production bike manufacturers to feature Dura Ace kit.You could order any of their top line models with your choice of component groups from Shimano, Campagnolo or of all French manufacture.

It is an absolute beauty. Might I request when you have an opportunity could I trouble you for a close up shot or two of the brakes, levers and perhaps the crank. (and is that the D-A seat post too? ) I've been lured to Campagnolo, but I'd buy that Bertin in a heart beat if I came across one in the same condition. You've done a wonderful job of keeping it looking great!

Hi cuda,
Thanks. Can do on the pics .Unfortunately the seatpin is a Campy SR which replaced the stock Milremo unit. This bike had originally been a show sample before my wife purchased it and the post was badly marred from repeated use.The only readily available unit in a 26.6 was the Campagnolo. I've been searching for a "proper" Milremo or D/A for several years now to no avail. Other than that the next thing is to get her back on a quality skinwall tyre.IMO, the black sidewall Michelins make the bike look chunky and pedestrian.

I have a few items I need to take pictures and add to velobase: Cinelli Model 14 Steel track bars, steel Cinelli track stem, Shimano 600 center pull brakes (never seen these before), and a couple of headbadges. Any interest in some Deore DX MTB components from early 90's?

Don't forget the shimano 3 speed hub thread: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ano+hub+dating
I didn't add this one to the original thread:
It's a very early style of shimano 3 speed indicator (exterior indicator needle - instead of a round window indicator)- this style was gone by the time the BMA/6 stickers were being put on everything - so it's probably a pre 70's thing.

My 88 Panasonic has the Shimano Deore Touring group I think. Are you talking about the group on this bike? If so I'll post the pics when I get home.

caterham - that is a hard size to find. It took me a while to find a decent one for my 'Cuda Mk.I. Of course I promptly shoved most of the NOS part into the seat tube. Hopefully I haven't destroyed it for all time.
Quijibo187 - what browser are you using and is it still happening?
redxj - your additions look great. Thanks!
Kommisar89 - looking for pictures of the components mostly. Does look like an early touring group on there though.
infinityeye - that should work just fine. Thanks!
Leigh30 - thanks, already have both of those photos. I'd love to get a closer up photo of that 60GS derailleur. I have a 75 catalog with information on the part, but no good photo of it.

Do you have one of these yet? This is a 70's Shimano Eagle. I can check it for a date coding if you would like. This was known as the most indestructable derailleur out there because of the drilled steel protective cage it ran in. If I can load a second picture I'll show a picture of it extended although it isn't very clear. I was told it was used on early home built mountain bikes in California for that reason. Maybe someone can verify that.
Tomorrow I'll try to take some pictures of a long cage Shimano Crane that I believe is similar vintage of early 70's.

Shifters look a whole lot like Light Action, I'd suspect the levers probably are too. Any model number on the bottom side of the shifter. If the lever has a model number it's probably hiding somewhere impossible to get to. Wasn't till later that Shimano started stamping the lever model number on the side of the lever near the pivot on a regular basis. Good photos.
