Shimano FFS
Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on removing the FFS (Front Freewheel System) from my 70's Nishiki, I don't even know where to start.
Thanks,
Melinda

From memory (it has been a while), unscrew the cones from the LHS of the BB axle (can't remember whether it is reverse threaded but you can see it). The cups can be screwed out with an old freewheel remover (smaller diameter than current Shimano removers)

Thanks for your help. I was able to get the cups off with the help of my Dad and his vise.

Hey Melinda, can you give us a few more photos of the Nishiki? Which model is it?

My Nishiki is a FFS Tourist, 70's model but I don't know the year. I'm going to paint it since the decals are fading and I removed the FFS to replace it with a modern crank. This is going to be my project bike.

You have probably thought of this...
Just remember that if you replace the crank you also need to change the freewheel, as it won't rachet like others do.

I'm actually thinking of converting it to a singlespeed since it's going to be my campus/city bike when I move to Portland. Then I won't have to mess with any derailleurs. But that's what I'm saying now, I change my mind quite often.
