ID Campy Components
 

I am hoping some of you can help me ID these Campy components. They are off a 1987 Tommasini Super Prestige which I just purchased. The bike has been modified from original as the down shifters have been replaced with indexed shifters. Some of these pictures are slightly out of focus. I can improve on those if they are needed. Also I didn't know what to shoot of the brake and shifter controls, so I if someone could advise me on that I will post additional pictures of the shifters later. Thanks for any input.

I'll take the easy one. It looks like you have a Record crank ("C-Record"). The 4 chainring bolts were the Record trademark once they left Super/Nuovo Record behind.

As for the other stuff, the monoplanar brakes are nice. The rear derailleur has steel pivot bolts. Makes me think the group is an Athena group, with an upgraded crankset.

The Ergo levers were the same for a while - they only made one set. Since it's Ergo, it's 1992 or later, at least for the levers. I don't think the components are from 1987, they seem too new. Back then it was Victory/Triomphe and NR/SR.

If the frame has 10-Speed Drive on it, someone can date the frame. 10 Spd Drive imported frames and painted them state-side, a vast improvement over the "we paint'em you chip'em" Italian paint jobs of the era. I don't recall their years but I'm sure someone here does.

Take a pic of the drivetrain (cassette, rear hub, front hub). That helps ID the different groups.

The brakes are first generation Chorus, the front derailieur looks to be Athena, the crank is C-Record, and the rear derailieur is either Record or Chorus(they look exactlly the same to me). There was only one set of ergo levers avaliable at the time ('92-93ish). If you decide to sell the rear derailieur, I'm interested.

The brakes could also be later athena which inherited the monoplaner design. The front derailleur can be chorus or later athena also. The RD I'm not to sure on either. Looks like it's all '92 or newer.

Cyclotoine, what I don't understand is this. I am not taking issue with any of your input. I appreciate your taking the time to respond. This is a 1987 Super Prestige which I believe was Tommasini's high end model at the time. It must have had high end components to begin with. Other than technolgical advances (index shifting, for example), what would have caused someone to replace all those high end components four or five years later. Just looking for a plausible scenario. Thanks again!

Ah, but he must have had some extra money. What better thing to spend it on, than making your old bike new again? Does it have a cartridge bottom bracket or is it a conventional adjustable/fixed cup setup?

Well it is quite likely/possible that the brakes and front derailleur are first generation chorus from 1987. In fact given the year of the bike it is likely. What is more likely is that he upgraded the rear derailleur and shifters in 1992/93ish to the new indexing system which was far superior to the indexing systems of the late 80s. Is there a date code on the back of the cranks? Even if there is it's hard to be sure... I would make sense that he upgraded the cranks with the rest of the stuff but who knows... a date code might help with the approximate year, it'll be 2 didgits in a box. But no one seems to have a definitive answer as to late 80s date codes.

it should be on the back of the arms. Easier to find on the non drive side.

The date code in the box on the crank arms is 51. Can anyone tell me how that translate.
