My only worry is this...How bad does this look and should I worry about frame integrity?

I spent tonight stripping the derailleurs and old cables. Also took off the bar tape and torn brake hoods and cleaned up the headset surface rust with some steel wool and wd40.

Very nice. That bike kills. I don't know about the rust so I'll let others weigh in on that. Very nice though!

That rust doesnt look like a problem to me, I have some softer bristle finishing attachments for my dremel that do a real nice job getting off that top layer of Surface rust when cleaning up restore projects that work pretty well. As for the bottom of the head tube is that surface rust there or dirt? all in all it looks like it should clean up pretty well. Nice Ride!

The bottom of the head tube is the rust I was worried about. The headset and all the other surface rust is already gone...Its just that rust on the head tube that I have no idea how to tackle.

Oxalic acid solution, flush with baking soda solution & rinse, dry, sand & touch up paint. When you pull the headset & bottom bracket to re-lube, it would be a good idea to apply frame saver to the inside of the tubes.

With the Ofmega crankset (and hubset?), Modolo brakes, and NR derailleurs, I suspect you have an early 1980s tre tubi frame. Assuming it fits you properly, you are going to love that bike -- mine is simply the fastest, best-climbing road bike I have ever owned. It can get a bit harsh on a long ride and a bit twitchy in a strong crosswind, but it is a superb male midlife crisis alternative to a classic Italian sports car.

Its an 84 Nuovo Racing. It is a tad small for me, but I am going to see what I can do as far as stem/seat adjustments. The TT length is perfect, I just may end up having a tad more seat tube than many people consider aesthetically p'easing.

And yes, Ofmega cranks and hubs, Modolo brakes, and NR Derailleurs and shifters. Definitely a tre tubi.
