Here's the Fuji Gran tourer I built for my little sister before:

This was a complete restoration with new polyurethane paint and decals as well as an upgrade to Shimano SIS shifting to make it easier for her to ride. Someone had already "upgraded" the drivetrain when I got it but the parts were mismatched and the work was done so poorly that the bike was barely ridable. Now with all new bearings cables, tires, etc. and everything adjusted as good as I could get it the bike rides like a new bike. I'm anxious for my sister to get it!

Here are a couple of snaps of the latest bikes to come home from the Bike Exchange for some love.
They are both Viva Sport models. Neither had a lot of original parts on it so I just did my thing using what I had on hand and what I thought would be appropriate.
The one with upright bars has a Suntour friction drive train with stem mount ratchet shifters , The drop bar version uses a shimano drive train including Stem mounted index shifters.

Custom frame sport bike
Some "before" pics as found at the Bike exchange
We get a lot of bikes donated to the Bike Exchange. Some are hardly worth fixing up to donate out to our clients while others turn out to be diamonds in the rough. These bikes have often been languishing in garage rafters for years until their owners realize they are never going to ride them again and decide to donate them to us.
This bike is one of those gems. It came home with me for some special love.
The bike was stripped down to the frame and deep cleaned ( I ‘m talking tooth brushes and Q tips) . All bright work was soaked in vinegar to remove surface corrosion then buffed and polished.
The paint was judiciously touched up and the frame and fork rubbed out with white polishing compound and given a coat of wax.
Head set, wheel, and bottom bracket bearings were cleaned and/ or replaced and re greased before being re installed and adjusted.
New cables and covers installed for brakes and derailleurs.
Tubes checked for leaks then installed in newly polished rims.
New handle bar tape installed.
Here is a list of components on the bike
Custom Frame. 63 cm seat tube. Champion Butted tubing. Forged Campi Dropouts. Fender and rack eyelets. Extra studs on fork crown for front rack. Chrome chainstay protector. 126 mm rear dropouts spacing. ( frame weight minus all fittings is 4.5 lbs approx. All up weight as shown 24.6 lb.
Headset – Tange
Stem and bars – Cinelli , with Shimano Aero levers.
Crank – Sugino AT triple with 170 mm crank arms.
Seat post - SR Laprade with Vitesse Racing Saddle
Brakes - Shimano
Downtube shifters - Suntour Superbe?
Derailleurs - Front Suntour Superbe, rear Suntour VGT Luxe
Freewheel - Suntour 14-30
Wheels - Aluminum 27 x 1 1/4” drilled for Presta stems
Hubs - Miche Competition
Tires rear Specialized Tri Sport , front Kenda (new)
And in refurbed condition
I'd really like to know who Jack is and what the H in the lug stands for!

Before. As found on the day I picked it up. There's nothing good about this bike aside from the size and the color.
After. My daily driver. Just a wonderful bike to tool around on. Only the frame, fork and seat post remain from the original.

Hi Johno, the cables on your Resilion brakes look suspiciously new! I saw a post of yours on another thread that included a photo of the brake parts in pieces painted red. I've just pulled my resilion brakes apart to de-rust and paint. I can see in the last image here that you've used some kind of cable knarp at the cable ends. I'm currently pondering how to do the 3 way cable split - how did you do this with yours? Lovely Sunbeam!

WV is not flat..
This Tempo cleaned up pretty well. I normally will not order parts from overseas suppliers, but took the chance on this Ponza saddle with the color scheme to match the bike.

As bought, except I put a Velo Orange saddle I had on it to replace the monstrosity that I found it with. German mil bag on the bars slid around too much
Ideale saddle, deore pedals, campy derailers, new bars, bee ends, and a stem with some rise... the bike isn’t worth much, so I figured I’d make it comfy and work we with parts I had in my box. Was very surprised that the old chorus rear and nuovo record front shifted perfectly over the wide range... 32/42/52 front and 13-32 rear.

'92 Stumpjumper made into my winter city commuter (VO adaptor and 80mm stem, VO Postino bars with cork grips and 26 x 2.35 Schwalbe Fat Franks with SKS fenders.).

Finished up this little Valgan with some Soma Sparrow bars, an old Matrix wheelset, and a cheapo Chinese CNC crankset. Fun stuff, should be a good bar-hopper for someone.
