I know it is hard to see in the before pic, but most everything was greasy, corroded, or dirty.

New tubes, tires, cables, bar tape, and brakes plus a lot of cleaning, lubrication, truing, polishing, and touch up,

Yup, cameras are like that...they can trick you into thinking a bike looks nicer than it does in person. I've turned down a few promising looking Craigslist adds due to that same reason!
I see you did a lot to make this bike road worthy & probably added many years to it's useful life. Sorry I doubted you & Well done!

I think it's called a "power cam", well something like that. I used to have them on a bike. I don't remember them working as well as advertised, cause I removed them at some point. I though I still had them in box of parts, but I can't find them now.

Personally, I think this is a great idea. However, there exists no mechanism to do that. We cannot offer any "for sale" items here, and the general "for sale" forum is near useless for C&V stuff.

It would be nice to have a C&V "for sale" subforum, but I've been told that is not feasible.

perhaps, but a subtle "I got this one to sell" tossed in among the other info. about the bike wouldn't constitute trying to sell it here, just simply noting the purpose for said bikes acquisition, and if another C&V'er just happened to send a PM to inquire what would be the harm...

maybe we could get a "I got this bike/part to flip" sticky that would do the trick!

personally I'm stuck not being able to sell anything on here because I don't want to get a paid membership BECAUSE I would loose the ads, which I actually like and frequently check out. I'm don't feel like logging in and out just for that, so it looks like BF is going to have to do without me as a paid member until I get the option to keep the ads, or turn them on and off at my discretion.

1983 Motobecane Super Mirage. This was my first refurb. Trying to make it into a sport touring commuter. Spent a bit too much but it was mostly fun.

I love the look, but it feels sluggish, I think because of the tires. Replaced tires with Continental GP 4000 700x25 reflective, because they were super cheap at PBK. After winter hibernation we'll see how it goes.

Possible upcoming changes: Lose the rear rack, add silver Planet Bike Cascadia fenders. Needs the seat post refinished or replaced. Considering making it a fixed gear later in 2009 for commuting/training/enjoyment.

It got some old 700 wheels thanks to another forum member, new cross tires, a neato nitto stem, $15 44cm alloy bars, cross levers, techtro levers, a cheapo frame pump, suntour bar ends, a ritchey triple, shimano ultegra front der my LBS gave me for 5 bucks, a suntour accushift rear der, and yes, that's my brooks with the cutout. That always goes on whatever bike I commute on.

Over all I think I might have $150 into the entire thing, but that pays itself back to me in gas money saved after just a few weeks of commuting.

The only problem is that every time I get on the bike and start peddling I fall over before I start moving. Not sure what the problem is...

I know, I know you're probably not TOO interested in "cruisers". I took my father-in law's 1936 Monarch and did a little updating to it, for my son. He uses it around the neighborhood and the marina on weekends.

How did I miss this thread when I started a thread just for my bike the other day? I searched and everything. Oh well. Anyway, the Dumpster Queen, my 1983 Raleigh Marathon. Pulled out of a dumpster the week before Christmas, and fixed up for duty as my backup commuter... and my primary commuter is down for parts right now.

Thanks for the compliments on the Monarch!.......It has a lot of sentimental value for my son and his kids. But just to prove that I'm not quite NORMAL, here is a 1936 Silver King (aluminum), that I put together for my wife..........It's a great pub crawler! I won the frame on ebay for $37........Remember it's all for FUN!

I'm 6'-2". It's a 25" frame which fits just about right. It's the same size as my Nishiki Olympic 12 that I wrecked earlier this year. If I had a slightly longer seatpost, I'd probably go up another 1/2" to 1". I found someone online who has the same bike in a 27" frame! On his blog he calls it "Big Sexy". Look at the length of that head tube!

I picked up this Cannondale SR400 that the original owner decided to make into his own version of a hybrid.
BEFORE:

I took it through a complete tear down, then did a frame up build. The replaced fork is an original Cannondale that I was fortunate to find locally on CL. It's a 1" threaded carbon fork that is the exact size for the head on this bike. The added brifters are seven speed Sora. The remainder of the components are original RX100.
AFTER :


New tires and cables and all lubed. All that's left is a shake down/demo ride then it goes to it's new owner, a co-workers niece who is new to road biking. This is my second downtube shifter to brifter conversion. I've got a third in the planning stages.

It is now headed for a second life on rollers; not exactly out to pasture (so to speak) but rather repurposed.

Rocco, I think you should have just wrapped those bars the way they were. It could be a new trend. I love the way the levers were mounted, Can you say--"Changing hand positions while riding"...

Also-THEMONDIA, I love the color on that Varsity...very nice restore..
