I sure wish I had a "before" of Capo #1, which had been repainted in dull Rustoleum red by an earlier owner.

Better before than after...
Here's a before and after horror story for you. The bike came to me as a still wrapped spanking noo frame dating 1940 or therabouts. Instead of keeping it for future generations to look at as what a brand new unbuilt 40's frame is like, I made the mistake of building it up, and worst of all, riding it...

A bike or two to add:
I garbage picked a 1987 Schwinn Sprint in February; just finished fixing it up for a friend of my wife's. Converted it from a roadie to a cruiser. Before:

The dealer decal is from Bolen's Bike World, which was owned by the son of former Fort Worth mayor Bob Bolen.

Let me get this straight; a 60+ year old bike frame came to you thrown over your hedge, still in the box and wrapped in paper? You sure you didn't steal that from a museum and throw a cheapo bike box into the vines for a photo op?

OK, here's a bike that I bought off Craig's List to use as a "grocery getter". In retrospect, I probably paid more than I should have...I paid $150 + $20 for a spare set of wheels (that I ended up not using), but there was enough wrong with the bike that it was really probably worth about $100.
The frame was in decent enough shape, but I swapped out most everything else for stuff I had in a spares bin or got cheap at a bike shop (except for the derailleurs, seatpost, and brake calipers) and built up a new set of wheels (Sun CR-18's on Mavic 501 hubs...I have a Mavic hub fetish). Took it for its inaugural spin tonight. It rides pretty nicely, though I probably should have gone for a 56cm frame instead of a 58 (which is what I normally ride), and I need to find some different tires. The Conti trail tires are nice for the bike path, but I think some 700x32 Pasela's would be a better choice. I also need to drill out the rear rim for Schraeder.
I'm hoping it's low-key enough to go unnoticed. The frame has some paint dings and decal scrapes, so it doesn't look like a bike worth stealing.

I have a couple of pics that I just took of a 1965-66 Columbia tandem I received in trade along with 2 other bikes. I did a complete makeover to it using the mint Troxel seats off the other bikes I got with it and 99.9% of the original parts ( even the orig D.I.D chain) with only the rear bars and tires and tubes needing replacement and I changed the color of the grips.The bike was covered in surface rust and a inch of dirt from sitting in a barn for more then 40 years. The wife and I didn't like it and by chance someone that saw another bike I had listed on CL asked if I had a old tandem I could fix up for him (he liked a build I did on a old Ross Beach Cruiser and listed on CL) he offered me $280 for the tandem so it was a no brainer to sell it to him,I just got a email from the guy who bought it and he is a life guard in Ocean City NJ and loves it and rides it to work everyday and wants me to keep an eye out for more because his friends now have to have one and they liked my work,it's great to get letters like that.
