Restoration - restoring to original condition
Repainting to the original color, without replacement of the factory decals, is a preservation (at best).
Replacing the derailleur drive train with a single speed is a conversion. Luckily, it seems you've not done any permanent damage. Did you keep the parts you removed?

What about a repaint with as close to the original color but taping over the original decals (and keeping) because they were in okay condition?

Yes I did keep everything and the chain line is very close, so if I want, I can just put everything back in about 30 minutes. I don't know if I will because I'm really enjoying the SS world- so quiet and smoooooth...

The Drive Side is Within
Great choices on this one. When I saw the frame, I thought that I could only posibly be scrolling down to a repaint, but you made it really work! I hve a black and a silver cage on my Jamis to match two sections of paint. I think it works here, too.

Nice bikes guys. This is one of my favorite C&V threads. I humbly submit my first project bike, my Fuji Espree. It sat in some ones garage forever until I responded to a craigslist ad with no picture. The price was right. I did go a little deeper into this one than I planned, but in the end, I'm glad i did.

Thanks guys. I now ride this bike more than my "modern" bike. The jury is still out on the Brooks though. I do like having a bike with no computer. I find that it makes the ride more enjoyable when you don't see how slow you are going.
