Thanks for the compliment on the bike. She's finally built the way I wanted to do it the first time. Got to give props to BF'er Stray Cat for the photography skills. He did the photos for me in thanks for helping him do some wrenching on his Scott before Hotter'n Hell Hundred this year.

fyi: bottle cage works great, got it from Nashbar. Perfect for having 2 bottles on the bike (a must in Texas) without having to use a clamp band on the seat tube!

Wow! What a cool term; Fixte. I like that a lot. I know a guy in town who rides Fixtes. I'll have to tell him that name.

But no, my wife rides singlespeed. The Skull decal with the sprocket eyesocket came from OneGear.com.



I wish I had taken pictures of all the rust spots, scratches, scrapes, gouges, vise-grip teeth marks, and general nastiness of the original paint jobs on my bikes before I painted them. Well, I did on the mixte but apparently many of you think those paintjobs looked just fine. Trust me, they didn't.

Don't worry, my Paramount and Pinarello Treviso frames will be painted by professionals and original-looking decals will be installed. The bikes I've been renovating have been very inexpensive ones that were headed for the scrap heap.

Bossman, what are the drop bars on that Centurion?

I don't recall. I fished them out of the bin, installed them, and sold the bike a couple of days later. Pretty sure they were steel, as I remember taping from close to the stem down to the ends. I only tape that way when there is no contour near the stem to account for the end-of-tape wrap, and that is usually the case with steel bars.

Why - did I unwittingly get rid of something rare and valuable?

I doubt that's it. I prefer bars like that with shallower drops. I bet others do too.

I'm not sure that I can patch together the paint without needing replacement decals. Could someone list some sources for me? Thanks!

I have been doing some before/after and am working on a "Rat Fink" using a really trashed old chrome Voyageur 11.8 frame. What do you guys use for rear derailleurs to upgrade on old 10 and 12 speeds? Friction is ok and preferred. The Fink will have a cruiser seat, close to flat bars up front, green flame decals with green cable housings and a flaming eyeball bike antenna topper as a bike flag. Dice for the valve stems or Maltese crosses. Hey, its cheaper than doing a hot rod car so don't laugh!

Here's a "As-Close-To-The-Original-As-I-Could-Get-it" restoration of a Ken Self track bike. The frame was an ebay win by a friend of mine. He loves it.

Sorry bout the lousy pics. The decals are a darker blue than I would have liked, but that's what I was given to work with. We also used a warmer white (the customer didn't like the ultra-stark white). I've never heard of Ken Self, but the frame was really put together well.
