That's a very nice restoration of a worthy TdF. Did you repaint?

Whoops, maybe I posted in the wrong thread. I admire a lot of the work done in this thread, and this is just my humble before and after...with subtle changes. If I can, I'll try to have my post removed.

Two years ago I posted here with my first C&v bike, saying 'no more bikes' (for now) and @RobbieTunes joked that such a statement just meant that all I could buy now was bike parts. And boy, have I. You fine internet bike people are a terrible influence. Since that initial acquisition I've ridden more and picked up bits and pieces that appeal for comfort/function and aesthetic form. Kept all the bits I took off it in case I ever want to put it back as I found it.

Lovely work, @musicdiver. It looks ready for another third of a century of riding! The bike has really come into focus.

Thank you. I did not repaint - just judicial, yet liberal application of Rustoleum white enamel touch up paint. The paint looks good about 6' away. Closer and you can see the details of my resuscitation.

This thread and the "Drop-Bar Conversion" thread have been very inspirational.
Impulse purchase a year ago:

Just finished tonight:

I'm not too sure about the handlebar wrap, to be honest (but at $7 from Nashbar, I was willing to give it a try), and the cantilevers are squealing, so I need to pick up some Kool-Stop pads. And I found out as I was taking it down the driveway that I will need to shim the handlebar/stem, as the handlebar keeps rotating. Last minute details, and the fit hasn't been dialed in yet, but I've learned a lot and this will be a good keeper

Sounds like you have a 25.4 bar in a 26.0 stem. Can be tragic with the single-bolt style if the clamp cracks.
You done good and she looks beautiful!

Don't listen to the caveman - he's a caveman! Modern man uses splash tape and asymmetrical patterned neon Lycra with Oakley blades. Just do it!

Classic!
I'm thinking the Trek 700/800/900 mountain bikes are the '68 Beetles of the bike world. Simple, sound, inexpensive, and classic looking. One of my sons has my frankenbike 730. It was my grab-and-go bike, and now I'm looking for a replacement.

Is no one going to mention that the fork on that bike is significantly bent? There, I did it.
Nice resto BTW.

Thanks! Simple and classicly-inspired was absolutely what I was aiming for. It's certainly starting to feel comfortable, though the first few rides are a little nerve-wracking for me

I "rescued" this 1990 930 from my neighbor's garage sale for $6. The brakes and shifting were horrible, and both tires were flat. The "Before" shot is after I gave it a tune up and put on a cool Bianchi seat. The "After" is my Beach/City Cruiser vibe I gave it. Those SunLite City tires and Surly Open Bars just changed the entire ride and feel to this bike. Nice bike!
