I'd like to get some comments on this bike which is on eBay. The BIN is $1100 and it's a "Make Offer" auction. It is suppoesedly a single owner bike which I think is a good thing. Does anyone have any knowledge of the seller, and more importantly, I'm interested in the bike model and the Campy Victory component value and usefullness. Bike seems to be in decent shape and I'm not looking for a pristine bike, but I also don't want to get a bike that's ready to fall apart. Thanks for any info!

The real value in this auction is the frame. Very nice Columbus SL although I find the treatment at the rear dropouts kind of funky looking for a brazed frame. Victory, while not top of the line, is reliable equipment. IMO the frame/component combo does not put it in that price range. Maybe if it were absolutely pristine, but it is not.

Well, the seller has 100% feedback, but a Ciocc for $1100?!?! With Victory components? And no chrome on the fork or stays? There also seems to be a fair amount of scratches on the frame, so pristine is not a word I would use to describe it.

I know someone with a nicer Ciocc bike with full Campy Record, who was planning to sell soon. I'm sure he would sell his nicer looking bike for less than $1100.

Victory was an entry level group. Not as value commanding as NR or SR, or even Chorus.
The bikes were desirable rides in their time. They didn't come with fancy paint or custom work.
Just an honest, great riding Italian frame.
But this one, although clean, looks rough. I see a lot of paint chips and wear.
The components are also rough and scuffed.

Maybe 500-600.00. Not the asking price.

I have to agree & think even $500-$600 is an ambitious price. I have seen nicer Italian bikes with better components sell in the $400 range, but its your money.

+1, it's overpriced. Period. But then the seller's in DelMar, so it's a "big money" location and mindset.
Plus, since he included such a big detail shot of the World Champion globe decal, I have to say it looks terrible...like a bad ink-jet reproduction. I just looked at the same decal on my Ciooc for comparison and mine looks clean crisp and sharp. I wonder if these are really the original decals.

There are much more desirable Ciocc frames - look for one with the cool, skinny IC lugs. I agree with Lynn that the tabbed dropouts are a big "yuck." That one is nothing special.

Quite distinctive at a time when a lot of bikes with IC lugs were starting to look the same. They're what make Ciocc's a bit special - and with that skinny profile, they're tough to braze, even though they don't have the hand-finished quality that pressed lugs would have.

I looked at the auction and immediately thought it was a re-paint, before reading the whole thread. There is no way Ciocc would have painted over the "Brev Campagnolo" stamps in the rear drops, look how messy that area is.

Your mention of the decals makes me 98% sure this is a repaint. The seller may not know this but he did purchase the exact same Cinelli bars on November 6, 2007 that are on this Ciocc; upgrade or piece by piece rebuild?

Seriously, I know someone who only visits here infrequently, and is selling his Record equipped Ciocc this Spring. I'd be more than happy to put you in touch with him, PM me. I think it's a 55cm, and is in MI.

Yeah, and the paint looks like crap on both of them. I would think a repaint would be better than the notorious 80's Italian paint.

Good point. Crap paint should not be a surprise. Ten Speed Drive brought in some of these, and actually painted them themselves because the home-cooking was so poor. I actually had a lovely early San Cristobal frame with a little TSD logo stamped onto the rear brake block.

I think that may be what my friend has. It's an Anthracite Gray, very pretty.

Wow, thanks for all the info! This forum rules! I was thinking maybe $700 tops when I made the OP, but you have clearly identified lots of issues with this bike. I will definitely stay away. You guys have so much experience and knowledge of this stuff, it just blows me away. Thanks again!
