2008 - any project plans?
Seeing as there's a mere 2 weeks of 2007 left, we might as well figure out how we're going to handle our vintage bike obsession for 2008. So, does anyone have any big plans? I'm focused on the Casati repair and repaint, plus I have new wheels for her (Super Record hubs to Campy Omega Strada Hardox). After that, my main focus is on school, finding another job, and moving, but who knows what sort of project might fall into my lap. Another Super Sport, perhaps?

I have the '97 Waterford 1200 frame/fork that I'm going to build up....
....also the Panasonic DX-2000 f/f .... making that into a really big single speed.
....maybe , just maybe the '82 Schwinn Superior will look like it's new again.....perhaps
....and last but not least, the '67 radiant coppertone Fastback thats been sitting in my basement for
3 years will get a makeover....

I have a Bridgestone 400 hanging in the garage that is crying out to be built. I've been wanting to try out tubulars so that may be the project for it.

el twe, I have noticed you have been ISO some bits and wondered if you had a new project or were just upgrading the Casati. My 2008 project is the same as last year... Corky.

I'm going to get the Zieleman and Remy on the road finally.
I've collected all the bits I need for them.
I'm also going to do something with my Trek 770, I just don't have an
idea what.
I also want to upgrade the crankset on my Pogliaghi to a more appropriate Campy
Pista (from the SR pista with 151 bcd), Campy Super Leggera pista pedals and
Fiamme Rims.

I'm just finishing stuff up.
1. Put chain on the Raleigh Pro and get it dialed in. (all else is done)
2. Build up the Trek 760 (have it started, and 90% of the parts on hand
3. re-change out the bottom bracket on the Fuji Finest - taking the cartridge BB out.
4. Possibly build up a new Surly LHT
5. Get the '39 ladies' Raleigh Gazelle fixed up and out the door
6. Possibly get the beater Trek 850 MTB repainted and built back up
7. Spend a lot more time riding

The '83 Trek 520 is hanging from a rubber hook as a rusty frameset.. that has to change. I think the factory wheelset has been located and will be added to the build.
The $20 '84 Puegeot PH-10L needs a quick repaint and put back together, never even ridden that one.
The '80 Motobecane Touring that I picked up a few weeks back needs a general overhaul and some touch up. I think another fellow forum member has found me a wheelset for this one too.
I think thats about it.

I'll be finishing my Litespeed-built ti Merckx project. I'm going with a modern 10 speed drivetrain with (gasp!) outboard bearing cranks. It will still have a pretty old school look though.
I'll also be getting a larger fixed gear/track frame and transferring some parts over.

A couple of definite plans for the new year:
1. Five wheels to build.
2. Sandblast and repaint my Raleigh Gran Sport, do up as a fixie. A keeper this time.
3. Build something modern that's better than my Fuji Finest. Maybe actually base it on a frame that isn't steel (for the first time in my life).
4. Find a used, clean GMC Denali. Strip down to the frame and rebuild with sewup wheels and all Campagnolo components. Post it on the road bike forum, and use it for Sunday rides in Ashland on those nice Sundays when all the Orbea's turn out.

A few projects that will be completed once I get a home with a real workshop instead of a 1 bedroom apartment.
Paint and Build the 57 Schwinn Corvette. Pretty much original, but not going for a full restore, going for a neighborhood cruiser.
Build the 63 Schwinn Jaguar as a large muscle bike. Banana seat, rams horn bars... Could use paint, but I am trying to recreate a bike from my youth, and it was a beater!
Convert a Nishiki Custom Sport to a 3 speed roadster. Any suggestions for an inexpensive 3 piece crank with a "single speed" chain ring? The frame is lugged hi-ten steel. Heavy, buy in great shape.
Finish the conversion of a Raleigh Mixte to upright cruiser bars, and 14 speed compact double.

1. Build up an all chrome gas-pipe commuter with some interesting bits. I'm building wheels for it too.

I had plans...
Was going to build up a 74 Traveler, but it was starting to look like it would be the twin of the similar vintage Fuji I messed with this summer/fall (latest has a suntour ratchet downtube shifter activating the AW).
I'm putting it on the back burner and am thinking about something a little different. maybe "nicer", although I don't know that it would actually ride nicer than the Traveler (I look at that fork, that vast expanse of wheelbase and go "oooh") but it would be enough different than the Fuj...
So... I dunno, but it will be something...

I sent the Razesa off to a local body shop for a repaint about 6 weeks ago and it hasn't come back yet. When it does, it will be a glossy white and I will be upgrading to Dura Ace 8-speed downtube shifters, an upgraded wheelset, new seatpost and stem and bars but keeping the 600 drive-train.
Once the Razesa is done I will get to work on the Ciocc. I have some nice yellow NOS decals and I am still as of yet undecided on the colour----black, red or maybe a sky-blue----any of them would look nice with the yellow decals. I'll just keep the 105 group I already have on it right now, unless something cheap and Campy comes my way.

Ill be working on the Bianchi i got from divineAndbright. It will get refinshied and an 8sp dura ace sti group. If all goes well I hope to build my own frame in 2008 also.

I'll be building the Battaglin for my daughter. Just waiting on the crankset, chain, and RD. I was going to go with Shimano 8spd Sora, but one thing led to another and now it's gonna be 10spd Campy.
