There was nothing particularly desirable about the stock components on these bikes (other than the Brooks saddle), and the frames are straight gauge 531 in the main tubes (rather than db 531 throughout). Nevertheless, the red/white variations are quite desirable, and overall the framesets go for far more than I ever expect them to. In other words, $125 for a complete bike in good condition and in your size isn't a bad deal as you wouldn't lose any money if you decide to resell.

Real nice 51cm red/white with fenders on my local c/list. Asking $150, hasn't sold in several listings over several weeks.

I got a red/white one on the Bay about 6 months ago. All stock ...and dirty, but in good shape except the tires and one pedal is toast.

Winning bid $117. Shipping $50. Total $167. Guess it was an impulse bid to start with.

But my size AND has the Brooks saddle.

And after Neals post, I dont feel like $167 was too bad of a price.
Keep it for a few years, overhaul it and double my money.

It's actually kind of sad. When I had seen it decided to bid, my intent was to do some brazing up grades & paint. Then custom build it up as an upwrong.
But then I realized how nice it is, in spite of the dirt. The paint is 7/10 (and it's RED) and overall looks low mileage. And it's ALL original.
So doing what I had planned would be blasphemous!
I'll just have to do a nice thorough overhaul and add it to the "keeper" stables. Where it will be the only "stock" vintage steed.

Good luck in your quest for one. They are out there.

I say go for it. $125 without shipping does not seem bad to me. These bikes were straight gauge Reynolds 531 but very comfortable rides nonetheless. I have 73 model with upgraded componentry that I ride quite a bit. Good Luck.

I bought a complete but modified SC MkII on ebay for $60 with local pick up a couple of years ago. It came with some upgrades, a SunTour VGT rear derailleur, barcons, Phil Wood pedals (sold for $90), Hi-E hubs (sold for about $50), Cinelli old logo track bars (sold for $125) and a pristine pair of 27" Mavic Module E rims, now laced to Campy HF hubs and on one of my other bikes. When I sold the frame I removed and kept a Phil bottom bracket and the Stronglight crank set. Then I sold the frame for about $300 on ebay.

Anyone know where there are more like that?
